Marvellous column by @rafaelbehr.bsky.social that absolutely nails Kemi Badenoch - who clearly very deeply believes that the mere act of 'well, I'm saying it' means that something must be thoughtful, even if it is just a more innumerate and caustic echo of Nigel Farage:
Badenoch’s ‘thoughtful Conservatism’ turns out to be just the slower road to Faragism | Rafael Behr
The Tory leader’s intellectual meanderings have shrunk her party into little more than a holding pen for future Reform party candidates, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

The social teaching of the Catholic Church is the largest - or the last global organization - left to speak about the poor, and in this way, about their dignity, hope, liberation and aspirations.

Dear BBCNews, Sky etc it would be interesting to ask Sir Mel if he has costed the impact of ‘treaty withdrawal’ on the UK economy in all his plans. Presumably the impact on our current weak position with EU trade will worsen considerably. This should be the first question and an essential challenge

Agree - there are many soft Reform supporters in this part of the world (Kent) who will be surprised at Council Tax rises and vulnerable to Tory persuasion if they get their act together - urban and East Kent unlike mid and West is unlikely to go Lib Dem…

I'm Jewish. I'm also Mancunian.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?

"Knowledge should not be locked behind paywalls. We owe it to our students, and to learners everywhere, to open the doors" 👏👏👏 Great article by @lsepress.bsky.social MD @niamhtumelty.bsky.social & @heroicendeavour.bsky.social on why OERs should be central to the public mission of universities.

Interesting and important piece. OER is genuinely transformative and dare I say more important that the mad sector preoccupation with AI systems ( that basically steal content for learning and then seek to monetise their products from universities and students).

Nothing being reported from Manchester Tory conference is ever going to happen - even if Tories survive Badenoch they will be different in both personnel, policy and context so sit down Sir Mel Stride with your billions of savings on welfare and civil service cuts.

A politician who embodies the current direction of the Tory party: a supporter of all the big policy shifts of 2016-24, who literally worked in Downing Street, who has decided oh, no, it is actually the fault of the immigrants. No, it’s your fault!
