Someone bought a bunch of the turkeys and hams at our local grocery in town and told the manager to make them available for free to folks that need them. There’s a whole freezer case with a sign on it that just says “If you need one take one, if you don’t then leave it for someone else.”

Absurd question but....What are some key books for understanding the history of England/Great Britain c. 1820-1914?

I'm less interested in books about the British Empire...more keen on the social history of British life in this period.

A former jailhouse lawyer who was exonerated of a murder conviction, will be the next clerk of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court in New Orleans.

"He struggled for years to retrieve his own case records in his bid to prove his innocence." He campaigned on reforming records retrieval process.
Truly an amazing story:

"Duncan, a political newcomer and former prisoner who was wrongfully incarcerated for nearly 30 years, won by a wide margin, besting Lombard, a veteran of the city’s courts, 68% to 32%."

Good afternoon, #HSS2025! Apologies for the radio silence. I spent much of the afternoon on a behind-the-scenes tour of the National WWII Museum. (I'll share some pics later...)

For now, I'm in Napoleon C for a session exploring a forthcoming edited volume on spaces of inquiry, broadly construed.
