Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

My fav Shakespeare thing is how Henry IV part 2 starts with Majel Barrett Roddenberry saying, "Previously on Henry IV..." and there's a clip reel ending with Hotspur yelling "FIRE EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT."

Then Majel's voice: "And now, the conclusion."

I have long had an obscure, complex theory about Susan Collins that explains these things.

Susan Collins is terrible and anyone who ever suggested she is a moderate is a liar or a rube.

That's it. That's the whole thing.
In case anyone is wondering what kind of campaign Collins intends to run next year, now we know. No achievements, only hate:

Collins' office said she signed onto the petition because she agrees with President Donald Trump’s interpretation of Title IX.

Some Democrats are salty over Slotkin's remarks, but in 1991/92 Bill Clinton campaigned on similar ground:

"Four years ago, I was giving a speech saying the Democrats were going downhill. And now it's become part of the conventional wisdom of the Democratic Party, so I guess I should be grateful."
Slotkin: "He's trying to distract us from the big stories of last week, the Epstein files and economy. He's tweeting 'the economy is the best it's ever been' -- amazing considering the public isn't stupid. It reminded me of Joe Biden. Biden tried to tell us for a year that the economy was great."

Trump, Still Terrible But Far From Great

this dumb shit is what i mean when i say this is a purely aesthetic “politics.” yeah man, why can’t we have a fusion of cosmopolitan social democracy and revanchist hierarchies of wealth and privilege? tough question.

With Biden it was public perception over reality. With Trump, it's like he's telling us to get up and walk, while we clearly see the bone sticking out of our leg.

Trump doesn't do anything without it benefiting him and he sees embracing Mamdani in the midst of Democratic indifference as a benefit to him. Say what you want about Trump but he has great political instincts, well much better than any Democrat. He is also charming and relatable when he wants to be.

Crockett was a devout supporter of Biden — even when others were breaking with him due to plummeting polling. We can applaud her loyalty and Biden obviously isn’t as corrupt as Trump but it is hard (and rare) to buck your party’s leader. Crockett is clearly building a brand on criticizing Trump
Crockett on MTG resigning: "Honestly, I was like, you got to be kidding. You're on the other side of the president for one week and you can't take the heat? Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes."

Reposting this clip of Harry Enten talking about inflation to make clear that the numbers he cites comes from a poll about how Americans *feel* prices are going up, not percentages of prices increases themselves. It's still not good news for Trump politically.

Politically, yes, it hurt Biden when he claimed the economy was improving when voters disagreed. However, the difference is that Biden was right — the economy was improving from where Trump had left it.

If I'm generous, I'd say this is willful political ignorance, but it's possible that these folks genuinely don't get strategy, impact, etc.

"Joining forces" with Liz Cheney was never going to benefit Harris politically. Cheney wasn't RFK Jr, who had an actual following.

well, I read it, and the salient, non-gross part is Lizza alleging, midsentence and without elaboration, that Nuzzi ran numerous “catch-and-kill operations” on RFK’s behalf, which would give her a role in both his appointment and the untold preventable deaths he has abetted in office. Cool.
