Andrew @tuttscorp.bsky.social has just explained "Cricket Central" to me and I'm very put out by this name. Call it Richie Benaud Oval and bang up the Ellyse Perry High Performance Centre, and for goodness sake put up a stand.

De Brouwer made the exact same argument two years ago after the Robodebt Royal Commission report was delivered. This is how I treated it in Mean Streak: "Grow up."
Screenshot of the book Mean Streak by Rick Morton. The text reads:

for the past decade and half, when conclusive certificates were
discontinued, is counterproductive to the Parliament’s intent.
‘When it comes to deliberative material, FoI does not ensure
transparency (because advice is not being written) and it
undermines integrity (because advice is not being written).’
So officials don’t put things in writing because they might get
released under Freedom of Information laws, therefore the FoI
laws aren’t working?
Grow up.
De Brouwer is not alone in his views. Former secretaries have
been doing the rounds making exactly these kinds of noises, as if
the outcome of poor professional behaviour is the result of some
law and not … poor professional behaviour.

Crazy. Amanda got her wisdom teeth out THE DAY SHE FLEW.

“I think when I'm not feeling my best physically or I'm facing a challenge, I think I pay so much attention to that that I actually play better 'cause I don't have as much pressure and I'm just seeing how far I can get.”

DFAT has now confirmed Australians and others have been abused by Israeli authorities after their abduction from the flotilla.

Assaulted and injured. Deprived of sleep and medication. Still illegally detained.

The PM and Foreign Minister must urgently demand their safe release.

Yes. He's deleted it now, but my first post was in response to this ridiculous article saying that robodebt would not have gone the way it did with the addition of AI. Truly mind boggling stuff.

Larry Ellison envisions a surveillance state in which techbros rule. '“Citizens will be on their best behavior, because we’re constantly recording and reporting everything that is going on,” Ellison said in an hour-long Q&A during Oracle’s Financial Analyst Meeting last week.'

I don't think robodebt was a mistake, I just think they thought they could get away with it. They gambled on their hatred of the poor being shared by the electorate. Maybe that reading is not as widely held as I had assumed.

Robodebt was class terrorism by the Australian government and it worked exactly how it was supposed to: it made people afraid to access the social safety net, took from those who were least able to afford it, trapped in a loop of automation without recourse.

How are people not getting this?

Just take away the compulsory ID for voting. Australia has compulsory voting, no ID required. Give the state less control of you, not more.
lewisgoodall.com
Right now we have the absurdity of compulsory ID for voting without a hassle free ID system. Madness and unfair to those least likely to have passports/driving licences etc- again, poorer people, younger people etc.
