Pakistan may have taken four Australian wickets but they need to take at least fifteen more before they reach the tail. #TheCricket

I am absolutely fed up of this assault on critical thinking. Those in power & those who aspire to it don't want people to think critically; they don't want people to _think_. The Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences are valuable in themselves, but watch the economy tank if Badenoch has her way...

This makes me so angry. These people view all life as training for lifelong servitude/work. There's no room for interest, enjoyment, and culture in their bleak vision of education. At least she'll never be in power to see it through. Though Reform are probably worse.
Badenoch: Curb students taking "rip-off" degrees such as English. The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

This is fascinating and I had no idea about the internal structure of Bosnia. It feels like something I should at least have heard of.

It really is the best. I used to watch it every weekend with my friend David and then we played Robin Hood and Maid Marian in the garden.

Very interesting in this screenshot that Labour claim to be doing what will please *working* people - so no thought for children, pensioners, unpaid carers, the sick, non-working disabled people, volunteers…. Not sure they’re meant to admit that.

I am not a member any party, as I never know who I will need to work with, or criticise. It is objectively funny though just how caught off guard Labour have been by @zackpolanski.bsky.social. While they pander to Reform, it has the feel of Greens taking more ground off them on the left.
Labour claims Polanski's speech shows he is sowing 'division and grievance'
The Labour party has put out this response to the Zack Polanski speech from a Labour spokesperson.

It is no surprise that Zack Polanski, a man who said he wanted to learn from Nigel Farage, has done so in his speech today – using his platform to sow division and grievance.
Labour firmly chooses the path of national renewal. Only our Labour government is driving forward the change working people voted for, to renew our country, keep Britain safe, and make sure people across all corners of the UK feel better off.
This is interesting because it shows that Labour does not a strong line of attack against Polanski – or, at least, not one that it is willing to use in public. Polanski was critical of his opponents in his speech, but it did not stir up “grievance” any more than Keir Starmer’s did. (Like Polanski, Starmer talked about people being let down by the prevailing economic model.) Polanski did criticise the wealthiest 1% for not paying their fair share, but not in a way that went beyond the class war rhetoric that is fairly normal at a Labour conference.

This! What does enforced car dependency mean for people who can't drive or don't have a car? Extreme limitation of mobility, otherwise avoidable loss of independence, or being forced out of their communities entirely.

Yesterday I said a society *requiring* you to own a car makes you less free than a society with options for biking, walking, & transit.
Lots of people have shouted at me that this could never work in rural areas, and that they have to drive long distances for everything.
YOU'RE MAKING MY POINT.

Think England should just be awarded the World Cup now. Save everyone a lot of trouble and air miles.

England’s first game going pretty well so far! I thought the cricket World Cup was supposed to be 50 overs? I doubt we’ll see nearly that many! #cwc25

In the latest @ridiculousashes.bsky.social podcast they discuss who’s going to be the up and coming most ridiculous player, which is why I’m walking through town yelling “Jacob Bethell!” at strangers.

Today's speech was easily the best Starmer has given.

For the first time since the election, he told a compelling - & optimistic - story about what the government is trying to do; charged that story with moral purpose; & drew clear battle lines with the Right.

A few quick thoughts & a challenge...

That would be fun! It’s been years since I was in the pavilion. I had Middlesex membership my first couple of years in London, but it didn’t make financial sense to keep it in later years, and then I moved to ten minutes from the Oval so switched to Surrey. But I miss Lord’s!
