My guitar teacher's obsession this week was Sarah McLachlan's "Building a Mystery". As a Canadian teen of the 90s, this song is embedded in my soul, and oh heavens is it delightful to play!

Well... she kinda figures out how to make use of them to suit her purposes. So they're a critical part of the plot, but they take up very little time in the text.

The novel I'm writing has creatures called Squirrels of Ultimate Truth, which are basically forest pests that annoy travellers. My antagonist expresses a desire to make them self-destruct into extinction. Is that an acceptable use of fictional squirrels?

A solitary* walk through crunchy leaves in the river valley would do my soul a heap of good today.

*open to including at most one other person who would definitely not speak except to share delight in squirrels or birds

Can anyone recommend an academic audiobook that was well done? Looking for a good example of how to handle citations, footnotes, bibliography, etc. in audiobook format. Ideally an academic monograph. Please only recommend if you've read the audiobook and thought it was well done.

Salad dressing is one of those things I kept buying in the store for way too long, and now I'm overexcited about making it at home. :)

Of course! This basic recipe for proportions, but because of what I had on hand, I substituted agave syrup for honey and canola oil for olive oil. I added 1 tbsp of peanut butter & a generous ½ tsp of ginger powder (would have preferred fresh grated, but we had none). I would eat this with a spoon!
5 Minute Asian Salad Dressing
This 5 minute Asian salad dressing is simple, tangy and so delicious! Made with sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey and soy sauce, it is great on any salad.

I forgot to mention the very clearly visible spinach. 🤦‍♀️

But yes, this disappeared into my stomach quickly!

Pleased with my lunch today! Fridge-pickled carrots, leftover roast chicken, cucumber, sunflower and sesame seeds, and wild rice mix, drizzled with homemade ginger peanut sesame dressing.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Of course, I also have some experience in knowing exactly how long my kids' interest in this will last and I'm tailoring my efforts accordingly.

Day two of the teachers' strike: my children are insisting on at-home versions of in-school structures.

They don't go to the same school anymore. They don't have the same structures. Which means adapting and blending. I suppose it's a good thing I'm creative and have some experience with this.

The province-wide teachers' strike started today in Alberta. I support the teachers who will be receiving no pay during this time and will be keeping an eye out for ways to help them.
