Good thread about D&D and house rules. I think they're spot on. I've played every edition of D&D and 4E was the best-built. But looking back, the jank, and the house rules we made to fix it, let us make the games our own.

Maybe it's what gave a lot of future indie RPG devs a taste for it too.
The implicit contract of the game had become "this system is overextended; pleaee bring your own glue and duct tape."

And then walks in 4e, an attempt to lean into the essentials and be consistent within that.

It broke that contract.

Good morning! Taxing the wealth of the richest 1% of Americans down to the median wealth of the next-richest 9% ($5.2 million per household) would free up $48 trillion. Redistributing that to the poorest 50% of Americans would give *68 million households* an average of *$700k per household*.

It happened to me. 😔
Creating an OC who's fucked up because of their parents might seem harmless at first, but unless you're VERY careful to avoid certain topics, at some point you're going to have to think about what their parents actually did to fuck them up, and now your OC's fucked up parents are also your OCs.

Please please watch tomorrow night on PBS. Most people have no idea what librarians are dealing with. Some heavy hitters in our field are in this movie. @librarianjones.com @sassylibrarian.bsky.social @becalzada.bsky.social

I need all those Epstein fuckers' reputations to burn in Hell. Ruined. Careers destroyed. Shameful exile for the rest of their lives on their private beaches or whatever. Just so they GO AWAY AND LEAVE US ALL ALONE.
Or better, GO TO PRISON but I'll accept never having to deal with them again.

I keep reading in Spanish so Huevember is Eggvember. Which I think is a possibility for an event that people ought to look into.
I am a Russian speaker so Huevember sounds like "Dickcember" to me and it makes me giggle every time I see it.

The House will vote next week on one of several extreme anti-voter bills recently introduced in Congress.

The so-called SAVE America Act could block over 21 million eligible citizens from voting by forcing in-person citizenship document requirements.

Tell your representatives to vote NO.
Stop Anti-Voter Bills Now
The SAVE Act, the SAVE America Act, and MEGA Act could keep millions of eligible U.S. citizens from being able to vote. Urge Congress to reject these bills.

After going down a rabbit hole re: U.S. TikTok's new privacy policy, I couldn't stop thinking about how even if some of the alarm was based on misleading information, it's not surprising that everyone assumes the worst. Anyway, I wrote about this: theconversation.com/fears-about-...
Fears about TikTok’s policy changes point to a deeper problem in the tech industry
Following the app’s sale, the company’s updated privacy policy and terms of service set off alarm bells. The reaction shows Big Tech has lost the public’s trust.

It's just so CRAZY how two different people can do art in the same medium and produce things that look so different they're not even on the same planet? DAMN what magic.

Which politicians are benefitting from the ICE concentration camp system?
In 2025, GEO Group and CoreCivic’s ICE contracts are expected to generate over one billion dollars in revenue for each company.

Executive leaders at the helm of prison companies are delighted.

Did your congressional representative receive a donation?

While I was doing stretches and meditation last week, these words floated through my head: "Forgive yourself for not having been enough."

I understood this was an instruction from my subconscious or God or whatever to work on letting go of old guilt and shame this year. And now I pass it on to you.

This is the landing place of a good thread that considers revelations that are so outlandish as to be the work of comic-book fiction with a perspective grounded in the actually existing world we live in, not losing sight of either pole.
I feel more grounded now. I hope this helps others who find it difficult to assimilate cartoon supervillains openly scheming to plunge the world into chaos into their understanding of world events without descending into conspiracy-style paranoia.
