I don't think I mind rougelites having major permanent upgrades but there's gotta be a balance to some extent that you can still feasibly progress without requiring those upgrades

it's not just said as a hypothetical, you can plainly correlate musk charging on the api for console clip sharing features leading to discontinuation of the feature entirely and games, especially smaller/obscure, now having drastically less opportunity for presence and spread by social media

100% agree but I think another aspect is the fact that direct sharing to social media has been gutted & thus another avenue of mid to smaller games getting easier reach for a critical mass that coverage happens is cut off.

Nowadays mainly PC only ones go big like that but most stay in their bubbles

As well as this, I feel quite strongly that the increased prominence in recent years of social media influencers who engage in nothing but ragebait content and harassment has proverbially sucked all the air out of the room, content mills producing bullshit at speed who dominate gaming conversations.
