But it is also impossible for me to read it without the context of the America of history, the America of where I'm at now, the kind of people that are most likely to call themselves patriots and have American flags

I mean, that's kind of why I have the tension xD And why I have enjoying them as an option, because on a conscious level I get all that, I get that they're about the general ideals of justice and freedom and equality, and I get patriotism doesn't mean agreeing with everything the country does

Id like to emphasize the only reason I'm watching *checks* 120 episodes of 60s batman is literally just cause in the Arrowverse a much older Robin appears and says "GREAT CRIMSON SKIES OF DEATH" and that is literally the only connection it has to the Arrowverse

The curse of a long running franchise is that the longer they have it follow the same character, the harder it is to have it follow a different character later, which makes people afraid to include, like, the passage of time in the story and introduce new generations of characters
