If they passed a law mandating that any AI generated media must come with a little watermark in the corner identifying it as AI generated I would drop all my opposition to it.

There is no system where keeping bad people out of power is not important. You can create systems with rules against abusing power. But we already have one of those. The problem is that the people in charge selectively enforce them if at all, which is why you don't want bad people in charge.
