I think a lot of us who laughed at Vermin Supreme around 2020 owe him an apology, he's meeting the moment better than most politicians.

My expectations are in the gutter and yet I'm still surprised. This is the liberal equivalent of "thoughts and prayers." Meaningless platitudes you hope allow you get past a news cycle.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

Media covering what types of gas the US government against its citizens is not what I had in my 2026 bingo card. Credit to the Minnesota Stat Tribune for their coverage of the killings and protests there, they've been a valuable resource.
Here's how to identify some crowd control munitions, canisters of which federal agents have left on the ground after deploying them against people in Minnesota. bit.ly/3YWp1jE

Rather than (just) calling your elected representatives about the latest ICE murder, go find a candidate who is wiling to meet the moment and support them in whatever way you can, by knocking doors, making calls, giving money, organizing a house party, and so on.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

People who were actually enslaved believed that chattel slavery would end one day.

I'm sorry but to me that suggests that you [who are not enslaved in 2026] can also imagine an end to the current horrors.

New article from @profamandaroberti.bsky.social @katiekrumbholz.bsky.social and I! We find that changing the framing of abortion restrictions to focus on "pro-woman" language versus "pro-fetus" language has an effect on pro-choice individuals in particular.

On the plus side, given the disconnected way in which the Court has discussed pot in cases like Morse gives me some hope this one will at least be entertaining to read.
