So yeah, I know I said I wasn’t likely to run anything at #Dreamation2026 but then inspiration struck. Flabbergasted. A classic Scooby Doo plot, but the PCs are the ones trying to convince the nosy kids and their huge dog that a manor house is haunted.

I try to know myself, to meet myself a bit more each day. To learn who I am and what I would do.

I contend that intricate world building that does not lead to play or loveingly crafting PCs that never hit the table is the #TTRPG version of assembling and painting a wargamming army but not ending up leading it into battle. Valid and scratches an itch, but a different itch. imho.
I see a version of this in TTRPGs too with a lot of newer GMs who've mainly engaged with the hobby through worldbuilding communities. They'll spend a lot of time building elaborate worlds that are largely non-functional as "play spaces".
On the writing side, this leaves people obsessing over their worldbuilding docs for weeks instead of actually writing. There's a whole generation of would-be writers who've never written a word because they're convinced they need a map of their fantasy world that accurate depicts how rivers flow
