In addition to Chung being a sexist pig, he's also dumber than a sack of hammers.

And yet Andrew Little, right-wing Labour Party leader turned right-wing Wellington mayor, chose to promote him, presumably for insights like this.

Vote for Little, get even less indeed.
Christ on a bike, Chung is a fuckwit

"Ray Chung questioned the benefits of the project’s pedestrian improvements (“was it considered that people might go for a walk somewhere else?”)"

Andrew Little buddies up to the right
In his first council meeting as Wellington mayor, Andrew Little opened a political rift between Labour and the Greens.

The other thing about Andrew Little using his power on the Representation Commission to accept his friend's shitty name change suggestion is that it encapsulates how he views public office: as a chummy boys club that you can use to reward your mates without regard to merit.
November 24, 2025 at 7:08 AM
We don't actually have to pretend that it's good process for Andrew Little to sign off on a name change suggested by his own mate. Or that the Representation Commission is obligated to accept every nonsense suggestion unless someone counters it.

Smarmy defenses of the status quo can get in the bin.
If anyone is concerned about the renaming of Rongotai, while you can't change it for the next election (or probably the one after that), you do have the power to elect a local MP willing to read the 1½ pages of public comment and represent your opposition for the next time it comes up.
I fucking HATE "Wellington Bays"

Bring back Rongotai.

This is why people don't trust Hipkins-led Labour on any moral issues. Their MPs by and large say the right things, but NZ's Starmer refuses to take a moral stand without poll-testing.

It's also why a lot of us think tossing Hipkins for basically anyone else would improve things overnight...
Labour is now the only Opposition party who has not put out an official press release denouncing the NZ government’s restrictions to healthcare access for trans youth and affirming their strong support for the trans, takatāpui and rainbow communities.

This is an important point. Is Chris Hipkins staying silent because he is playing footsie with NZ First and is willing to throw trans kids under the bus for power?
Can you confirm that ensuring puberty blockers will be available to trans kids will be a bottom line for Labour in any future coalition negotiations?

Okay I just need to get these things out of my system:

"Labour are splitting the vote by running against Green candidates!!!" no they aren't, you KNOW how MMP works, and this is a shit argument when it's the other way around, so it's also a shit argument now
November 23, 2025 at 6:46 AM
Has Chris Hipkins bothered to say anything about this? The Labour Party under his leadership is just an empty void.

This is why tons of people don't trust Chippy's Labour. They feel entitled to the pro-LGBT vote while staying silent when the most vulnerable are under attack.
Great to see this from individual MPs but when it’s not coming from the top, and there’s no official statement or press release on Labour’s website, this doesn’t bode well for a future where, following this trial balloon focusing on trans youth, further restrictions to healthcare are very likely.
Doctors and parents should make decisions about what is best for their kids health - not politicians. The Government has said doctors cannot give new prescriptions of puberty blockers to children who are suffering from gender dysphoria. That is putting kids at risk.

This has still not been reported in any mainstream news that I can see - healthcare is a human right, and we’re currently actively normalising its removal.
Politicisation of healthcare is a hallmark of authoritarianism, and silence as trans rights are removed means an easier path for more erosion.

Some Labour supporters keep telling us to give Hipkins time, or that he's good actually who just seem *pretty* quiet about criticising Hipkins and Labour publicly on issues like trans rights EVEN THOUGH we know he took advice from Starmer

And now we're getting headlines like this. Maybe step up 🤷‍♀️

That every comment in this article is supportive of trans kids right to access puberty blockers tells you everything you need to know. In the medical community, this isn’t even a debate. No one thinks a ban is right.

This is only true if you identify exclusively with the bombers.

But the claim that US liberals warmongerer less than conservatives just isn't true. LBJ expanded civil rights AND killed millions abroad. A Vietnamese child doesn't care whether a white or black pilot dropped a bomb on his village...
I hate this sort of meme.

“The only difference between the parties is whether the power to destroy human civilization rests in the hands of leaders who think gays, women, and black people should have their rights acknowledged.”

Even if true, how is Rainbow B-52 not infinitely preferable?

Some opposition MP should put a "Regulatory Standards Act Repeal Bill" into the biscuit tin, approach the NZ First backbench MPs to sign on in support of it, and then see what happens if it gets pulled from the lottery ... NZ First didn't promise not to vote to repeal it once enacted!
Winston Peters vows to repeal Regulatory Standards Bill; David Seymour hits back
"We did our best to neutralise its adverse effects and we will campaign at the next election to repeal it," Peters told Radio Waatea.

They illegally blocked a best practices document the government commissioned from experts and then disregarded it.
Zero surprises that the brainless transphobic health minister in NZ ignored all expert advice and evidence and banned puberty blockers for trans youth. Literal blood on his hands.

Now would be a great time for Chris Hipkins and NZ Labour to commit to reversing these horrendous puberty blocker restrictions.

Time to show that they're not transphobic like their UK counterparts...

This is grimly amusing. Bishop couldn't fulfil a campaign promise because of Simeon Brown's footpath fatwa, so he had to raid a Kāinga Ora fund. Maybe running transport policy as a culture war was a stupid and destructive thing to do in the first place, eh.
NEW: Chris Bishop used housing money to fund a bridge in his electorate his own Govt had killed off.

Officials were against the move and Labour say he shouldn’t have been anywhere near the decision.

Remember that the $4billion road being rammed through Wellington is not for the benefit of Wellingtonians but instead for National Party ministers who hate this city and can't wait to leave it after a long term week at parliament destroying the economy and doing a bit of racism
Looking at the map at changes around my neighbourhood it looks like (because of a number of no right turns allowed) it will literally take me longer to get to the airport and longer get home from the city than it currently does. And even a little longer to ride my bike to the city.
