The Democratic party is just a collection of cowards, collaborators, and quislings. They won't even get language barring ICE from deporting US citizens, but they'll vote to fund DHS/ICE anyways.

When I was working in the US, United had a former pediatrician reviewing vascular surgery denials. It was exactly as farcical as it sounds.
One doctor’s recommendation to deny a 43-year-woman coverage “contained errors on practically every aspect” of her condition, the Labor Department said in 2012.

United and other insurers continued to hire the doctor over the next decade.

Training and body cams for fascist goons is the most Democratic Party thing ever. I was morbidly joking that this would happen, but they're actually doing it!

Does anyone actually believe they'd rein in ICE if they controlled Congress? The Democrats are just not a serious opposition party

It's a real mystery why no one likes the Democratic party or trusts it to accomplish anything
On His Way Out, New Jersey Governor Vetoes Legislation to Bar Local Assistance to ICE - Bolts
Phil Murphy killed a bill that'd have codified in law restrictions on how sheriffs and police can partner with ICE. Some restrictions remain in place, for now, via an attorney general directive.

At some point, you'd think EU leaders would realize that you cannot actually engage with Trump like this. He just takes it as a sign of weakness.

If you want him to back off, you need a show of strength. It's well beyond time to do something like restrict US tourism, reciprocate tariffs, etc

oh, we just let them off with “lacks the language”?

that indicates brutal inadequacy for a PM & any objective commentator would understand that. if media want to be taken seriously they need to stop this absurd charitability towards politicians who have already proven who they are 100x over
Christopher Luxon refused yday to say whether the abduction of Maduro was illegal or if he had a problem with the attempted annexation of Greenland.

One expert I spoke to thinks our Govt just lacks the language for a world where the US is like this:

PM defends quiet approach to Trump’s actions in Venezuela and Greenland
Christopher Luxon says New Zealand must “control what it can control”, but can still be champion of rules-based order.

ICE is seriously going to be Gaza all over again for Democrats isn’t it. They’re going to try it again, insisting if they just don’t talk about it then it’s not actually an issue that matters to millions of voters.
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.

Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

This is why I'm so pessimistic about the US going forward: even if the Dems win big in 26 and 28, they're not going to fix any of the structural problems that got us here (ICE, SCOTUS, etc).

They want Biden 2.0, and that's just going to lead to Even Worse Fascism in 2032...
look he's seen the polling, this is not a statement about what's effective, it's a statement about what they want to be committed to doing with power should they win. if they run on opposing ICE then they'll have to actually oppose ICE. this is ideology masquerading as electoral strategy

I was willing to run cover for the democratic party’s horrendous stance on immigration in November of 2024 as a sign of compromise and pragmatism as someone supposedly represented by this party. Not anymore lol.

These issues themselves are fine but the refusal to place immigration and the secret police terrorizing our families alongside those issues presumably means that a bunch of leadership are white supremacists and I am fairly comfortable jumping to that conclusion at this point.

Meanwhile, in the town of Willmar, ICE agents had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, waited until it closed, then confronted and arrested three workers as they left.

The more I think about this, the angrier I get. It takes a particularly virulent strain of sociopathy to sit and let hard-working people serve you a meal knowing that you plan to arrest them and send them off for deportation once they're off of work.

Really depraved shit.

Tim Walz wants Minnesotans to "not take the bait", so here's a question for @governorwalz.mn.gov :

Was this woman taking the bait? Should she have just let ICE illegally trespass on her private property and threaten her with chemical weapons?

part of the problem for schumer and other centrists is that they think ICE is awesome *on the merits.* Like, they aren't compromising on ICE funding; they actually love deportations, believe that lawlessness at the border or whatever nonsense is a real problem. 1

Both Walz/Frey have been in a defensive crouch & it's clear this is escalating because they didn't just hand the keys to the state over to a bunch of thugs but merely let them operate with total impunity, if they're gonna get hit either way, other blue states should skip these steps & fight back

in other words, the more we demand we abolish ICE, the more other people will tell us that’s unpopular, or unstrategic. that’s why they are saying that: because it is becoming popular, and it is strategic (if your goal is “end ICE violence,” not “protect some Democrats from taking a stand on ICE”)
