I followed the chain back and I don't think the claim is really consensus belief on here, I just think the relevant nexus of beliefs highly correlates with "likely to get in a fight with Will Stancil" and that is distorting his perception somewhat.
This is literally the consensus belief on this website. And because everyone knows it’s the consensus belief, big tastemaker accounts completely refuse to challenge it, because their game is to say things that they know the majority of their audience will agree with. So the falsehood spreads.
defining the economy is capitalist propaganda, as is measuring it with graphs. also, the economy is bad and used to be better and everyone knows it.

“There she goes again with her psycho fascist rants!” we used to laugh. “In the Spectator and, uh, on Radio 4. And now, as a columnist in the Times. Why is she on TV? A mass-murderer has quoted her in his wacko manifesto and now she’s being RT’d by Michael Gove. Wait, what exactly is going on here?”

It's almost like maybe the ones who've been driving the fascism all along were the chattering class "centrist" elite who resented their loss of control over bourgeois propriety to the damn millennial filthy proles on Twitter, and the crass egoist kleinburger bosses who resent being judged by anyone

Very sad to hear of Prof Pulvermüller’s passing. I only met him a couple of times but he always seems an incredibly nice man as well as a deeply insightful thinker.

There’s no mystery about whose fault this is, is there? It’s been there on in Parliament, on TV, on the radio and next to the cigarette counter in Asda every day of this century so far. It could not possibly be more crystal clear who created this shitshow, and who continues to profit from it.

I’ve got my I didn’t leave the left, it left me article locked down and ready to go. Just waiting for an offer.
Monkey’s paw stuff here, when we consider how many mediocre people there are who would like to make millions and hang out with rich, powerful people.
Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

Just found out Sean Connery died 5 years ago…
The passing of Paul Newman (2008), Sean Connery (2020), Sidney Poitier (2022), and now Robert Redford (2025) signals the slow disappearance of a certain type of 20th century figure: men who embodied classic style in a way that reflected their taste, rather than a professional stylist.
