Maybe I’ve missed it, but in all of the Alonsomania, I haven’t seen any mention of the fact that his agent is Scott Boras. When’s the last time the O’s signed a Boras client? Gives me hope that maybe they can work on a Gunnar and/or Westy extension. It’s a brand new day, friends. #Orioles

- Enlarge the House
- Add DC/PR/USVI as states
- Multi-member districts
- Automatic universal voter registration
- A new VRA
- Adding seats to SCOTUS + term limits

Presidentialism was a mistake & amending our Constitution is ~impossible, but there are ways to make 🇺🇸 an actual multiparty democracy
The number of seats in Canada’s House of Commons is very close to the cube root of the country’s population, a tendency that is common in other democracies.

If the U.S. did that, the House would have nearly 700 members today instead of just 435, which is the same number it had in 1913

"Low effort" is so spot on. The looks I've gotten from women when they learn I can cook could melt the remaining glaciers, and cooking is basic life shit! Literally just be self sufficient, guys.
I'm starting to wonder how much "the male loneliness epidemic" is just straight and bisexual women identifying low-effort, mean, and incompetent men and choosing not to date, marry, and tolerate them anymore

Really cool to live in a time when the US Supreme Court can't see the logical end of any of its knee-jerk rulings
SCOTUS conservatives just blessed the Texas GOP's gerrymander. It'll be used next year.

They stay the lower-court ruling, written by a Trump-appointed judge, that found the gerrymander to be illegal.

While no clear vote, Alito wrote a concurrence; and only the three liberal justices dissented.

/Jeffries gives Trump kudos while doing The Robot
Jeffries: "The border is secure. That's a good thing. It happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it, of course he'll get credit for that. In terms of making sure that we actually deal with the issues that matter, including on immigration, there's a lot that's left to be desired."

I am once again begging the writers of these scolding columns to include Andy Harris' thoughts on mid-term redistricting since he's the one poised to lose his seat. As leader of the Freedom Caucus, it's quite relevant. (Spoiler alert: he's for it)

What profit if Maryland Democrats gain a seat, but lose their souls?
Ask Maryland Democrats if they would support a president who breaks all the rules, behaves like a despot and uses America’s divides for personal and political gain — but did it to advance ideas they ...

There was mass media outrage and books written about a Biden mental faculty cover-up. This guy's out here having repeated MRIs and has no idea why.
Trump: I had an MRI and the result was outstanding.

Reporter: Was it your brain?

Trump: I have no idea what they analyzed, but whatever they analyzed, they analyzed it well.

Overdue. But maybe we can get some traction by next November.
New in PN: Cue the rebellion

"The unfortunate conclusion to the shutdown is going to fuel a rebellion within the Democratic Party, one that has already begun but will only get stronger. And despite all the justified disgust now being expressed at Dems, in the long run it will be good for the party"
Cue the rebellion
The Democratic base is enraged at their party's capitulation — and that's a good thing.

Jesus H Christ. This might be the dumbest thing he's ever said and that's in a very long list of very dumb things.
Ingraham: Is a 50 year mortgage really a good idea?

Trump: It’s not even a big deal. You go from 40 years to 50

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

We haven't been sitting at home for 40 days with no pay for you guys to cave with no healthcare deal - HOLD THE LINE.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Regular reminder that @thebaltimorebanner.com has more than filled the gap in Maryland reporting left by the collapse of the Sun. You do not have to default to WaPo's garbage.
every time you think the new WaPo editorial board can't embarrass itself any more, they manage to find a way.

Left: 'Texas gerrymandering is no big deal!', from August.
Right: 'Maryland gerrymandering is an affront to Western civilization!', from today.

Brand new data:

Republicans blamed for the shutdown (+12) and for health care premiums going up (+28!!).

These are stunning numbers. Republicans aren't immune from the pressure this creates.

Time to press our advantage. Stand for what we believe in.

Gov Moore apparently heard the backlash to Ferguson's dismissal of redistricting the other day. Full steam ahead.
Today, I’m announcing the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission.

I’ve been clear from Day One: If other states are determining whether or not they have fair maps, so will Maryland.
