the vibes are successfully spooky when they want to be and the effects are rad and gross, but it's also just a really funny movie. there's tons of great jokes and at one point the taoist monk sings a ridiculous song making fun of himself

a chinese ghost story (1987) was a super fun movie. parts of it feel like the prototype for green snake but instead of being super dramatic and thematic it's a funny and goofy horror movie. and ends with the wuxia equivalent of shooting a rocket launcher at the end of a resident evil game. recommend
