I am seriously considering hosting a weekly meet up at the library where people come and ask me questions and if I can't answer them, we learn how ti look it up.
This is so soulless, I can't stand it. We have BRAINS. We can USE THEM.

Also. It warms my heart to see artists not use generative AI
I do wonder what they thijk of classification algos and AI when use analytically like to classify images.

This gave me the hope i needed today
One of the hidden dangers of AI and the normalization of its role in workplaces is the subtle and then sharp loss of confidence.
I've seen people lose confidence in their skills and their judgement.
I see people everyday just being doomers about it.
What other dangers are we missing?

The only way i see it happening is if someone figures out distributed model training and inference om heterogeous devices.
But the industry has zero incentives to pursue that
AI companies rn are quietly encouraging self censorship and they dont even know it.

i doubt Ai companies can "go green" any more than oil companies can.
the very nature of their business is to strip resources and shoot for impossible exponential financial growth.
nothing about either industry is sustainable. not even for the short term, now.

With the recent news that turbotax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT
It has to be said.
If we are not careful we are headed towards a future where research or looking up tutorials without a commercial AI solutiom will be seen as highly suspicious.
And so will being able to learn without ai

I feel like it is culturally important to note that I recently played an old episode of the Simpsons on Disney+ for some kids and then a random newer episode and the kids, unprompted, were like “how come this isn’t as funny?” so it’s not just nostalgia we are correct

Every car made today is an incredibly sophisticated computer on wheels. Really unfortunate that there is simply no solution to having it die because one (1) little overhead light was left on overnight.

Twitter now displays where accounts are from and it has confirmed that too many of the political accounts are out of country bots.
Why are folks still there? To argue with bots? A waste of precious time while enriching the richest man on Earth.

I blame the idea of corporate silos and the archetype of developer as an isolated entity.
There is the whole devops idea but... No one foes it right.
Soon as it's viable finacially im rolling my own infra for Ramble

im frightened by the prospect that we're producing developers who have never messed with hosting their applications on linux servers. ive joked about it but im seeing its an actual real problem that software "engineers" don't actually know how their software runs
