Starting tomorrow I'll be doing a timeline of power rangers media from pilot to the shows, movies and comics so be on the lookout for that.
as they say never meet your heroes.
I feel at this point we should just move forward with the franchise rather than rehash what came before focus on a new group of characters, a new story etc. heck put a star trek next generation by having it set 100 years in the future.
i would recommend watching shows like she ra and the princesses of power since that show breaks down the hero's journey and instead focuses on how community and solidary can save the day same with amphibia and steven universe.
i feel if we want more media that's about breaking away from the hero's journey than we should talk about said media that breaks away the hero's journey that's what I liked about Anthony gramuglia's video on anime how most anime breaks away from the monomyth and focuses on community and friendship.
I say stuff like lumberjanes a comic book series written by ND Stevenson following a group of girl campers who attended a camp for the summer only to learn all is not what it seems at the camp.
to paraphrase soundwave Ursula K LeGuin superior, JK Rowling inferior.
Levon & Maya Hawke Break Down Most Intense Avatar Sibling Rivalries sees real-life siblings and lifelong Avatar superfans Levon and Maya Hawke join the podcast for a deep dive into the sibling relationships that define the Avatarverse with Janet Varney and Dante Basco...
yay Portland...can we live there instead.
i would recommend watching shows like little witch academia and the owl house as well in the owl house's case is about fighting back against an oppressive system that seeks to kill its own people under the guise of saving them from themselves.
I feel most anime have done stuff like this like one piece for example since that's about a group of anarchist pirates fighting against systems of power and control and working together as a community and not holding Luffy as this grand monomythic figure.
you think Hayao Miyazaki and Ursula K LeGuin' works would go hand in hand with each other since both are against the hero's journey and instead are about working together in solidary with one another.

just got back from a no kings protest definitely a lot of people there.
as the old saying goes, never meet your heroes.
that's one thing I like about James Gunn's work is how he'll focus on more obscure characters like peacemaker, the guardians of the galaxy, Creature Commandos etc.
even the joker from batman the animated series would look at these jokers and say, geez i feel bad for batman he has to fight these sticks in the mud.
the new pokemon series actually broke this curse by letting a year pass and its new characters were actually allowed to age.

in this day and age, I'll come to appreciate media that while flawed and badly executed at least were clearly made by people who at least tried to tell a good story.
i feel like this applies to youtubers as well who will actually listen to those who criticizes them instead of doubling down and accusing them of sexism and transphobia and homophobia like James Somerton and lily orchard have.
I'll never forget the one he did on George Floyd and how at the end he played a clip of that one black woman speaking her mind on what happened and how white people were lucky that black people wanted justice and not revenge, even he wasn't afraid to speak out and let others do the same as well.
