That’s more fair. I don’t think it’s accurate to say that they’re motivated by the perception that each side represents genocide. That would imply a middle third that is radicalized, rather than apathetic.

This is what I’ve been saying. Once money leaves the scale where it can provide any meaningful improvement to your daily life, it stops being money and starts being power.

And America was built specifically to give its people the right to vote people out of power.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”
Billionaires Are Hoarding Power, Not Money

Great, now do all the conspiracy theories get to flip around 180 and gain some potential legitimacy?

This timeline is whack.

Um … didn’t we used to build US bases in middle eastern countries? And that came off as akin to colonialism?

So now the Make America Great Again crowd’s solution is to let middle eastern countries colonize US? 🤣

Little off-brand, isn’t it?

Remember when the right used to look down on participation trophies?

NEWSMAX: What do you think? Trump wins the Nobel Prize next year?

SEN. ROGER MARSHALL: That's the hope. Certainly he deserves it work the work he's already done. Who knows -- maybe he needs a lifetime achievement award.

NEWSMAX: Maybe we need to create the Trump Peace Prize

REALLY looking forward to playing it for reals! The pre-release beta-test thing ruled!

I meant my implication to be that we still have all the usual tools. He hasn’t removed any of ours, he’s just added scary new ones of his own, and he wants us to think we have to abandon normal liberal democratic tactics, because that plays into his civil war / enemy within narrative.
rangutang.bsky.social
His administration is just acting like it’s the first of a thousand-year reich. We don’t have a useful mechanism for removing him TODAY, but if we don’t blink, keep resisting, and retain the moral high ground, his days are numbered.

He needs us to be doomers and cede him his dictator role.

I did keep going after that post, but we still have peaceful protest, we still have elections, we still have public opinion turning sharply against him, which should accelerate as the consequences of his rule keep arriving.

Harris lost to egg prices; his position is fragile.
rangutang.bsky.social
He wins if we fall for his grift that we already live in an authoritarian police state, instead of living in a country where a bunch of losers are cosplaying one.

We CAN definitely still lose to this, and jumping the gun on a violent insurrection is one way to do it.
rangutang.bsky.social
All of Trump’s power comes from perceived public support. He’s overplaying his hand really fast because he’s scared of elections. We still have all the tools of a centuries-old liberal democracy in our hands. Trump didn’t delete them overnight.
rangutang.bsky.social
You’re challenging me to come up with alternatives to unilaterally handing Trump and Miller the violent insurrection they want, to get the country onboard with a military police state and eternal dictatorship?

I don’t know, how about ANYTHING else? 😀

Just doing some Halloween shopping. This particular listing seems to imply a … variant purpose for the costume.
rangutang.bsky.social
For a moment, this picture on Amazon made me question the purpose of the costume.

Yay, I finally know how it’s spelled! (Hard with a non-rhotic accent 😅)

It’s so funny to see unserious goofballs in silly costumes facing off against a frog.

This photo from Portland by @reuters.com's Carlos Barria 👌

I’m really curious which decent systems you’ve observed, and why they work better, in your estimation.

I listen at 1.5x speed, only because I’m more comfortable when other people talk as fast as I do.

(I once listened to MYSELF on a podcast and had to slow it back to 1x to understand myself.)

LOL weird juxtaposition of sincerity and comedy in my feed 🤣

I think she’s committing regular crimes, not war crimes …

Violent insurgencies can be hard to uproot if that's what you NEED, but we're still really far from that being our only option, and living in THAT country for the foreseeable future? Not what I want for my kids, if we can help it. And we still can.
rangutang.bsky.social
Trying to come up with a word like “Orograms” but it’s not working.
rangutang.bsky.social
No one said do nothing.

But what is doing something violent going to accomplish? Do you think you’re going to DEFEAT the federal government in combat?

You play the hand you’re dealt, and we actually have a decent one if we don’t willfully screw it up.
