I just finished watching The Wrecking Crew. Some insane storytelling decisions, but it was tons of fun the whole way through. Biggest takeaway:

I might have to take a social media break. It’s hard to describe the psychological symptoms I’m experiencing, but I’m mentally exhausted, sleepy all the time but unable to sleep, and habitually tied to my phone.

People are right to be incensed, but there are more names to uplift. ICE killed an immigrant man named Silverio Villegas González in Chicagoland. He had children. Victor Manuel Diaz was kidnapped in Minneapolis and died in ICE custody on January 14. Their names deserve to be repeated, too.

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

A key part of what is working in MN is the fact that everyone knows that every square inch of the city is being recorded, and even though Homeland keeps claiming their agents are being attacked … there isn’t a second of footage of that.
Just a LOT of footage of them killing and hurting people.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics

It feels like most of American history is us advocating for ideals that in practice, we don’t live up to … but each decade we do better at actually meeting the ideals we advocated for in the past.
This past decade feels like a sharp reversal of that trend. I’m deeply ashamed to be a witness to it.

We should be welcoming in as many immigrant workers as our economy demands.
