Once upon a time, I was a barista in a lil indie coffee shop in Madison, WI called Eureka Joe’s.
We ALL loved working on days when @theonion.com was delivered.
Now, it will be delivered direct to me. The power feels overwhelming

Going to BIG town (Sioux Falls) to see bestie who moved from Denver in May (I helped pack & load).
I’ve not gotten there all these months & am reminded of my NY state grandpa describing my VT family, “they get up in the hills & they won’t come down, & they sure as hell don’t want you coming up!”

Citizens nationwide and in NW Ohio are asking important questions on data centers. They're worried that facilities demand massive amounts of energy, eat up farmland, cede local ownership and control, and drive up utility costs even more. Ask questions first!

Who among us…?
"The raccoon entered the ABC liquor store in Ashland, Va., through the ceiling early Saturday morning. 'It wreaked havoc,' said Carol Mawyer, the public relations manager for Virginia ABC. 'It broke several bottles and consumed the spirits.'"

I love him.

I have been craving cake INTENSELY for a few days, so I made this simple pumpkin spice Bundt this afternoon.
It’s supposed to cool in the pan for two hours. TWO. HOURS.
I am accomplishing a lot of little projects just trying to keep myself from thinking about carving off a giant hunk

Canyon controversy: people are illegally dumping trash in our cans at the end of the county road. BUT, ALSO, neighbors who are used to their can being in a particular place in the row are dumping trash based on the order of cans (despite address being marked on lids) 🧵

I was not spiritually ready for this.

But our last bag of pellets was burning (backup heat for when the woodstove doesn’t quite keep up), so I cleaned out the truck, crossed town, and then unloaded that 800lb load with the Bernese blend doggo dancing around my feet, super delighted with winter 🥶

Although I solo’d my T-day, I did not want for food prep. 30lbs of apples canned as sauce, 8-10 chicken carcasses simmered into stock, & a couple bags of last-harvest cilantro puréed & frozen in little dollops.
Still a few tomatoes & peppers for roasting tomorrow, & the stock defatting & canning.

Flying solo for T-day.
But I picked up some extra roasting chickens the other day, having an inkling that a feed might be needed.
Got the call yesterday: a colleague’s grandpa in hospice and lots of family to be fed.
Menu already written in my brain…

I see we have a final day of garden harvest & general yard clean up before Mama Nature ramps up the outdoor fridge/freezer space.

Escaped to the woods today—just a gorgeous mid 40’s-50’s calm sunny day for waging War on Christmas™️ (jk—it’s really liberating baby aspen from invading white spruce) and general clean up of slash and old downed rotted pine.
Tuesday the temps plummet—hoping for enough snow to burn slash this year.

I spent pretty much all day putting together a how-to on gathering & sharing exhibits for individual intervenors (that is, regular people intervening in a state permitting process because they care) in a uranium exploration contested case.

And lemme tell ya I love my work, but my brain is FRIED. 🤯

Refreshing to see #SouthDakota leadership with a realistic look at #waterpollution: "I think you can have some incentives, but we’re going to have to look at some restrictions as well, and regulate.” Water is a growing concern on both sides of the river.
One of South Dakota’s top lawmakers said it may be time to move beyond financial incentives and consider new regulations on #agriculture to address the state’s polluted rivers and lakes: “I think it takes more than the carrot to address this."

That’s some seriously crappy lawyering.
A senior ICE official just admitted in an evidentiary hearing in Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s case that someone else drafted his declaration in the case and he didn’t know what certain words meant.

Ok. I’ve gotta ask. Has anyone had a meeting invitee send an “AI meeting notes” facilitator to your Zoom (without attending themselves or notifying you they were planning to do so)?
Protocol? Thoughts? WTH?
(I kicked it out.)

One of the most ironic things from my years lobbying the #SDLegislature was that time the SDFU lobbyist called me out in the senate lobby, saying my org’s position was basically, “We hate Governor Noem & everything she does is wrong.”
That wasn’t our position, but…🤷🏼‍♀️

As a former (state level) lobbyist in South Dakota, I learned the fine art of kudos & camaraderie on ONE. SINGLE. THING. while avoiding the swift kick in the teeth on literally every other thing.
*studiously avoiding the cringy term, “strange bedfellows” because ewww*
Again before we go praising MTG… and if shes truly changed great, but can somebody please ask her about January 6? Have her address that to see if this is real

Short answer: Yes.
More details: Electricity prices increased 267% over 5 years for energy customers who live near newly constructed data centers.
The report said that wholesale prices have doubled since 2020, mainly in areas near data center hot spots.
