When I politely expressed disbelief that today's caller was phoning from Telus his response was to repeat "shut the fuck up" three times and call me a bitch. I've been half-assing this but will now be screening 100% of unrecognized callers.
No worries! I'm sure it's a full trip. Heck, when I hop to Onterrible it's a miracle if I manage to see even a third of my relatives in the area unless there's a wedding or funeral, and pals are even harder to get in the same place at the same time.
Oh hi! I work about a block away from the Citadel clock tower; I would have waved out the window if I knew you were in the neighborhood.
Trying to figure out why my apartment smells like bananas even though the last time I bought bananas was at least a month ago…
I've had to turn on call screening on my phone to deal with the deluge of scam calls but once or twice a week one skips through and when the caller says they're phoning from Telus I just sigh and say "you're not calling from Telus" and they hang up immediately.
a netflix advertisement shows a woman peeking out from behind a door and says j'accuse
Alt: Frankie Bergstein (played by Lily Tomlin) opens the door and walks inside, dramatically points towards someone we can't see, and says "J'accuse!"

Thank you for the information! I figured it was likely, given the publication dates and all the other work you have been doing. So I'm going to encourage nibling to imagine their own Harriet or Danny adventure (and maybe even draw it?).
If I haven't raved to you about Ursula Vernon's work yet, you probably haven't spent much time sitting still in my vicinity. Her books for grownups are among my faves, but the kidlit is also deftly done. Get to a library or indie bookshop ASAP.
Years ago I started reading the Hamster Princess books aloud to them over video calls when they were grieving the death of their pet hamster. Retold fairy tales with talking animal characters and an entertainingly stubborn protagonist. The series was both a comfort and a delight.
One of my niblings saw some kind of poster or display at the library and is now convinced that @tkingfisher.com is publishing a new Hamster Princess or Danny Dragonbreath book this year. Every time they bring it up I do an online scan hoping that they're right. (no luck yet)

I can't speak for the other provinces but in NS it's not about the bike lanes, it's a power grab.
Sucks how provincial governments in three Canadian provinces (Ontario, Alberta, and Nova Scotia) are trying to strong arm municipalities into getting rid of bike lanes.

This is fake city shit. Real cities move their people.
@hfxtransit.bsky.social: this is ridiculous.

On weekends when you know the bridge is closed and there are major events on the waterfront, ferry service should be every 15 mins.

Sort it out @andyfillmorehfx.bsky.social
#halisky what are your favourite Nova Scotia independent news publishers? I've been subscribed to @halifaxexaminer.ca and grandparade.news covers the city hall beat, but I'm wondering what else is out there. Gotta update my media list for work (and maybe add a subscription to my personal stack).

the premier busying himself with an 800m-long street getting bike lanes while train service to the city literally falls into shambles is pretty on-brand for Tinpot Tim
Did you ever see when he was on Broadway in Sondheim's Company? With Martha Plimpton, even. I wish I could have been there to see it live, but the recording is a treat. youtu.be/1mTserEvXWQ

This adorable creature somehow has walrus and tiny dragon vibes at the same time. Such big teefs!

Every Nova Scotian would benefit from the release of this report. The province is so small that everywhere is your backyard. Its extremely important for understanding & addressing past harms, as well as challenging on-going concerns like fracking, uranium mining, and any potential AI development.
Black and Indigenous communities were asked to share painful experiences of environmental racism. They did.

Now the Houston government refuses to release the report—and some ministers haven't even looked at it.

Ah, I'm good with my heritage foods, but I feel just that way about the clam chowder popular in my current region. Each ingredient is individually acceptable, but repellent when combined; I can't get more than a couple bites into seafood with significant amounts of dairy before it gives me the ick.
Every masked ICE swarming/kidnapping I see in the news sends my mind back to April 2020 in NS. But murderous assholes don't have to spend ages prepping and plotting — it's almost like they can just visit a mall to instantly equip their clique to anonymously disappear brown people. 🤬
The way I keep seeing American communities reliant on tourism beg Canadians to come back & stop punishing them for 47. Ma'am, some of us aren't vengeful, we just don't feel safe entering a country where it's impossible to tell the difference between fed law enforcement & bigots cosplaying as such.

This is exactly right. All the ChatGPT, etc is losing billions of dollars, and so they're going to try to get to profitability (they'll fail) by making it terrible with ads and data sales. All the current "hallucinations" (wrong term) is nothing compared to where this is going.
lmao, genAI is shitty now and they haven't even begun enshittifying it with ads and product placement yet. This is its golden era. That's so funny.
