I think one of the unfortunate side effects of DnD's dominance in ttrpg spaces is that people are always trying to make the next new DnD or the next new 5e.
As a genre, ttrpgs have so many wildly varied options, so to see people constantly chase after 5e and try to emulate it feels uninspired, imo.

Return to Silent Hill felt like a low budget direct to dvd video game adaptation... whilst also being a shockingly accurate portrayal of SH2 on the silver screen. For better and for worse.
It was the exact sort of hokey I enjoy, but I can't say it was a great film.
