I’m old enough I remember when Georgia was a red state.

”Look at this perfect puddle. It fits into the hole just perfectly!”
I think the question "is Trump a good politician?" is genuinely a complicated one. He is extremely good at running for office in the United States as is, slotting into deep-rooted material and cultural dysfunctions that other politicians who are less sociopathic were loath to prod so directly.

Hell yeah, this government efficiency thing is off the charts
Speaker Johnson is officially keeping the House in recess again next week. This will be the eighth consecutive week the House has been out of session. The chamber hasn't met since Sept. 19. Adelita Grijalva, who was elected on Sept. 23, has not been sworn in.

a wartime footing? With *my* beautiful tax cuts?
Hegseth: "We are not building for peacetime. We are pivoting the Pentagon and our industrial base to a wartime footing. Building for victory should our adversaries FAFO."

Can you believe the new mayor won't even give me the time of day? Me? A rich guy who sucks?
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

is it a 40k thing cooking our online nerd brains, or have we all actually forgotten that heresy is normal and cool?

Penny wise, pound foolish. The amount we spent on helping stave off poverty, oppression, and famine was a pittance compared to having to manage a refugee crisis.

Strangely it's already dropped out of the discourse, but don't forget that Tuesday was a fucking sweep.

You need to pay higher taxes babe
I dunno. I do like our government spending less money anywhere they can. I like even more if my taxes go down as a result. Since when is our job to be the world’s mom and dad? Did other countries step up to fill that gap?

“You have a right to a life that is free.”

Damn son.
Sandwich Guy thanks everyone for their support, “emotional, spiritual, artistic or financial.” Intones, “Let us not forget that the great seal of the United States says…‘ out of many, one.’…You all have a right to live a life that is free.”

Watching Hank Greene interview of Nate Soares and man there’s so much bullshit in here. Soares seems to assume that using language is the same as understanding language, and his whole theory of artificial mind seems to be based on this.

Genuinely surprising how credulous Hank seems to be in this.

I feel like she looked at the polling
MTG: "I'm trying to lead by example to talk to everyone in kindness. We don't all have to agree but that's being an American. And thank goodness for that. Our freedom of speech, our 1A rights, allows us to do that. My personal belief is that I need to set an example by speaking nicely to everyone."

i’d also say that the GOP’s obsession with this gives candidates an opportunity to articulate and stand up for their values. “i refuse to make anyone feel like they don’t belong in my [state/city/community]. and i want everyone to live the best life they can achieve [insert policy slogan]”
I am taking particular pleasure in the complete collapse of trans-as-unbeatable-wedge-issue narrative this morning. It might be an 80-20 issue in voters minds, but it has to be on voters minds to matter. The results in VA demonstrate that it is very much not on voters minds.

“You don’t like using their made up pronouns? I don’t care about that. So what. Be nice to them.”

“Look, I also forget what the proper term for a woman who used to be a man, but I also don’t think you should go out of your way to be a jerk to them Mark.”
Honestly I think you can even have a sort of dumb-guy libertarian take on a lot of the social issues.

Like, "I don't really get all this trans stuff, but we're talking about kids here. Shouldn't we be protecting kids?"

And if they're not kids,

"It's not my business, leave them alone."

I feel like those of us here who have been fighting to shape what opposition to fascism should look like have been left behind, and the Popular Front is out there forming without us.

This makes me very hopeful.

I’ve been listening to Bouie and Ganz’s politics episodes on @unclearpod.bsky.social (I might have to unsubscribe because of the shutdown, tho) and man so far their discussion on military readiness is right fucking on. Especially for two people who haven’t themselves served.
