OR clutch the things you care about close to your heart and refuse to give in to the temptation of nihilism (about motion smoothing only - everywhere else make your own calls)
Leave motion smoothing on this year. Who cares. Your parents or in-laws are upscaling a compressed HD image to 4K anyway. Also nothing matters.

turkey's great, everyone overcooks it. 5 minutes at 150 degrees is safe, no meat is good at 165
dessert should be AT LEAST 2 hours after dinner, if you disagree you did dinner wrong
