Not only have editors prevented me from showing my ass in public, so has hiring sensitivity readers. I’m a big fan of both. Having someone be honest with you while also keeping your best interests at heart is something to be valued not dismissed

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Speaking of the well-deserved death of social media, I've started using Newsblur as my new RSS reader (had to clean up a depressingly large number of dead links, including to sites that still publish but no longer have RSS feeds) and that does still in fact provide a source of good internet

I spent my daylight savings clock-forward to articulate about this situation that keeps happening to my adult comics and why I want people to stop. blog.reimenayee.com/i-get-pissed...

I get pissed off when my adult comics are put in the children’s section - Blog - Reimena Yee

Or perceived as only suitable for children and not the parents or guardians/cool adults who I actually crafted the comic for in the first place. I explain why I am annoyed.

my hot take is some of y'all need to stop only reading comics. read prose, go to a museum, learn scrimshaw, wtfever. go be an interesting person first because i can TELL when people don't ingest anythiinnggg else but comics

And like they complain about their clothes falling apart so frequently (in addition to clothes being of poor material) cos they wash AND dry their clothes with so much chemicals 🤨

Comics schools need to beef up their comics writing and professional practices classes + we urgently need more platforms and journalism to support original graphic novels + more people who know about comics should apply their skills to parts of the publishing industry besides design and editorial.

- We need cheaper printed black and white comics for the love of god
- Comics for adults could do crazy numbers if they actually had support, pubs are leaving money on the table
- Prose authors shouldn't be hired to write comics based on prose chops alone
- Cartoonists should be paid 700x more

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.
