It is unbelievable that Australian taxpayers are paying to send two former Defence Ministers, now weapons industry lobbyists, to the UAE and Saudi Arabia to spruik their clients and arms sales into the region. Unbelievable except it’s business as usual for Labor and the Coalition

To be clear, to talk of one section of society "reclaiming" land which was stolen by our settler-colonial state and whose sovereignty remains unceded, and when settler-colonialism is at the heart of the current racialised rupture, is just grotesque
It was appropriate to have a day of mourning, but this language is very problematic in the context of Israel's actions and the political insistence on merging all Jews with that country as a unitary identity. And Minns' tie colour choice wasn't an accident.

This ... nothing is ever done to deal with this by our governments. Lotta lotta 'lip service' but women still, and regularly, keep getting killed by men. While this keeps happening, shiny new hate laws matter zilch & so does a 'national day of mourning'. And, mourning, for some. *crickets for others

What a debacle.

There is now a “real risk” that a future Australian government may abuse the Hate Laws, and use them to ban opposition parties —

The new laws will enable the federal government to target and silence groups that are critical of the Israeli state over the genocide taking place in Gaza.

If criticising the state of Israel for its genocide in Gaza is hate speech, is criticising Australian governments over aboriginal deaths in custody not also hate speech? Or the USA for its government run ethnic cleansing program? Just wondering. #auspol #hatespeech

This rejection of court ruling seems to legally imply superiority of Israeli Zionists over the Australian population. Implies superiority, exclusivity to define what hate speech means, that it can only affect the superior group. Surely this is blatantly unconstitutional? #auspol

Last year the WA Police "union" objected to cops being included in new laws that restrict firearms for people subject to restraining orders. It's a confusing position, until you remember the studies indicating 40% of police families experience domestic violence.

So disrespectful to the #Gadigal people, @chrisminnsmp.bsky.social! Many of us are permanently displaced and people already claim our unceded land. If anyone should be reclaiming, it is us! But it is shared with ALL Australian people. Including those who stand with us in #Protests against #Genocide
Why did NSW Premier Chris Minns tell the Jewish community "Just as you reclaim Bondi Beach tonight, you have taken back the Opera House as well"?!?! Why would he use such colonialist language? One community group doesn't "claim" ownership of Bondi Beach. Or "take" the Opera House. #auspol #nswpol

Australian politics used to be a relatively serious pursuit, with most participants taking their responsibilities seriously. That is no longer so. Mostly now they range from mindlessly corrupted to actively clownish in their behaviour. One thing we don't get anymore, as a result, is good laws.

Unfortunately Chalmers is a massive AI believer and facilitator, as are pretty much all of Labor - and the fossil fuel that goes with it. They just do whatever Big 4 consulting firms suggest they do. So I just don't know if I can be hopeful, with that record behind them (I voted ALP awhile back)

For the indicted war criminal Herzog to be coming here means that he knows he will not be arrested. Our government fully endorses Zionist principles. They were gifted an unprecedented law to shield them from criticism, with bonus bans to protest by the police.
