As have repeated pointed out, the idea that aggresively trimming the survey data — discarding a large chunk of it, a different chunk each month — magically produces some useful measure of 'underlying' inflation is almost laughably silly, yet here we are.

The new, directly-reported monthly trimmed mean series is much better behaved, as can see (after April last year).
Best can tell the ABS hasn't provided the trimming information, as it used to for the quarterly series (which large chunk of actual price increases was tossed out to create it).
