This is just one of the 51+ prison systems (each state, Federal, counties, and now ICE detention) that have their own arcane rules. Rules that change again and again and force us to spend our time figuring out how to get our incarcerated members the materials they need for faith development. 3/4

We did it, but it took a lot of time. They recently stopped that rule, and instituted an equally bad but different one. We are adjusting, as we do. It takes staff time to do that. 2/4

For years, the state of Arkansas limited mail to incarcerated people to four single-sided pages. This meant that CLF had to break up our resource mailings for people in that state--sometimes into dozens of packages, each with four pages. 1/4

This may be minor in the larger face of fascism, but it is physically revolting to me. I have been to Wounded Knee, and solemnly listened while Lakota teachers told the story of the massacre perpetrated there. I have knelt on the blood-soaked ground and wept. There is no honor in this history.

Not to triangulate an argument with a rabbi I don’t know, but I find that dangerous and ableist as a sweeping statement. Might we change the way we consume social media? Sure. But we need one another now more than ever. We need to be connected in whatever ways are possible.
