Happy Birthday David Bowie, born this day in 1947.

His 26th and final album "Blackstar" (★) was released on this day in 2016.

David Bowie would pass away just a couple of days later. Rest in Peace.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

You shake yourself awake in the cold North Atlantic water. You are not online. It is July of 1858. You are a baleen whale, and you have changed your mind. The future most not come to pass. The telegraph cable must break.

Whoa, imagine seeing and hearing this in 1930. You might never have seen colour film before, and full sound films had only been around a year or two. Then Gershwin throws THIS at you

Also I really feel that it needs to be taught as part of basic wilderness survival—if you see a creepy wicker effigy, LEAVE AT ONCE.

No good will come of it.

Baby blanket WIP. About 14” long now, so not quite halfway done. And yes, I would have loved to have found a much chunkier yarn, but alas.

No offense but I think we underestimate how many of our current problems, both cultural and political, are downstream of the decline in reading, the decline in learning and the loss of interest in the humanities.

Wildlife tracking! I'm reposting things I made this past year. If you look closely at the deer tracks you'll see I added the hint that they're double registering (hind foot is stepping into the same spot as front foot).

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.
