Statistically speaking, that experiment you want to repeat because you’ve hit a wall will probably fail, and then you’ll wonder why you wasted your Thanksgiving on something that could have waited until Monday. Sometimes the best thing you can do is recharge and rethink. Go see your mom.
During the Plague Year, I wasn’t able to travel home for the holidays, so I spent some time in lab catching up on extra work. I did not graduate any faster, but I did run into a PI who was all “WTH are you doing here? Go enjoy your staycation.” And honestly, that’s the attitude we need.

You are correct. In the past, it was okay to say that the application was funded because it received a 4th percentile and the payline was the 10th percentile.

Just got an email from my SRO for the study section that was missed in October. Good news is that they are trying to reschedule ASAP (Dec/Jan). The bad news is that CSR is mandating that only the the top third (not half) of applications will get discussed for the next 2 rounds.

While the government was shut down, 379 NIH study section meetings (containing 24,380 grant applications) were postponed. NIH is committed to getting these reviewed, but please be patient and understanding with staff, as this is a complex and heavy lift.

The NIH passed three major #NIHGrant submission deadlines during the shutdown with a fourth hitting on Monday. There is a huge backlog of proposals needing to be referred to study sections and ICs for potential funding.
