It costs nothing for you to share this.

For every dollar you donate to your local food pantry you’ll be providing up to 10 meals to families in need this holiday season.

Perhaps the best part of the AP photo for Louvre heist that foregrounds three French cops and one very dapper bystander is that two of the police (no slouches themselves) are looking at the well-dressed fellow with "I wish I was cool like him" expressions.

It's movie poster material.

I just don’t see how we can pretend even for a moment that anything involving our federal government is remotely normal when the president is covering up his involvement in a child sex trafficking ring. Like, what are we doing here

They called them Near Abroad Direct Action Operations, NADA Ops. The "joke" in the CalSec cafeterias, which made its way out later in the hearings was that "What does the operator say when asked if there are civilians in the area? Nada...oops!". Even decades later, Arizona didn't find it funny.

Big news: Indiana Republicans signal they still do not have the votes to re-gerrymander the state, and that the Senate won't convene the Senate after all in December.

Getting 1-2 seats out of Indiana was central to the GOP's redistricting-war math.

Indiana redistricting push likely dead despite White House pressure
It’s a massive blow to the White House’s efforts to shore up a Republican House majority next year.

Telling myself that staring at the computer will not make me any less scared or lonely, that it does nothing to ensure against an uncertain future, and what I need to do, what I have to do, is finish getting ready and get out the damn door, into the world.

It's still difficult.

Ooh, the first edition of "Century of the Typewriter" by Wilfred Beeching (1974) is on archive.org! Probably still in copyright in the UK, but Beeching died in 2000 and I *urgently* need to read more about Italian hydraulic typewriters of the Mussolini era than is in my abridged 1990s edition ...

The NPR sponsorship announcement that ends, "...Purchase, New York," as if I could afford that! I didn't even have enough for that one bridge, and the man said he was selling it at a special low price 'cos he needed the money in a hurry.

"Purchase New York," as if.

I will likely always call small-gauge tinned bare copper wire "delam wire." 1970s consumer electronics manufacturing used it to fix small areas of circuit boards where the copper foil was peeling off the board, "delaminating." Solder it down, test, and out the door! Those were the days....

It’s very enervating to watch intelligent and educated people play dumb about this amidst the ascendance of a far-right reactionary movement driven by antisocial Silicon Valley psychos and Miami crypto scammers who all treat women as status symbols on the same level as NFTs and Labubus.
he’s a provider of access to money, connections and beautiful women and girls — everything that these people need to affirm their own status. being rich and powerful is a grift which requires other to bolster & buy in. That’s the service Epstein provided.
Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????

I am reminded of the first and only local Mensa meeting I attended after officially qualifying. Three other women, all of whom looked past like I wasn't there; 90% of the men were one or another type of jerk or asshole. A few nice people...but not worth it for all the annoyance. 1/2

A reminder for anyone who needs it: having voted for the guy does not make you complicit in his crimes. You're not stuck with him to the bitter end. You can always say, "Hell, no," and walk away at any time.

Today would be a great day for that.
