“I grow old ... I grow old ...
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.
Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers,
and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.”

Along those lines…

Found out this morning that the person who ‘donated’ the sperm to the person who bore me, round about their first anniversary, died the day before my most recent birthday. My first reaction was cacio e pepe or pollo al limone at a celebratory dinner this evening.

This is, quite literally, food for the gods.
A 16-year site favorite in which two minor-seeming things -- flaky sea salt and brown butter -- transform crispy treats from a "kid thing" to something so good it's hard to share with a kid -- or anyone. No matter where I take them, they never last 30 minutes.

Pick up the nearest book. Turn to page 42 and post the second sentence.

“On the other hand, the regulations do permit the green stamp pasted over the cork to state the year of distillation and the year of bottling.”
Pick up the nearest book. Turn to page 42 and post the second sentence.

“The Anschluss has stimulated business by opening the nearby frontier to free trade.”

Well then…

“Across the”

My name for the Arkansas River in Tulsa.

My grandfather‘s construction company was located in West Tulsa. So, every time that we went to visit him, we went ‘across the river’. My answer, above, to an elementary teacher’s request to name a river actually made it into our local paper.

I am a sometimes scantily clad "Basil Beauty" touring the Continent shortly before the onset of WWII.

And the inspiration for a 1950s Hollywood musical.

Walking south of Washington Square Park, I saw a white Rolls Royce driving by; I was feeling friendly, so I waved. They waved back. Only afterwards did I realize that it was Paul and Linda McCartney. This happened several times and the last time, I was blessed-Linda recognized me and waved first.
