I’d like to finish and post more personal stuff. Most of what I do at home is really to learn some new technique or process. I tend to not finish it once I get the “aha” moment.

In the meantime, here’s some lookdev/shading stuff I’ve done for work in the last few years that’s no longer NDA. 🧵
I really love it when weather forces SFO to switch to runway 19R and L for landings. Planes come in for final approach right over my house but they’re still high enough that it’s not loud. It’s this rolling white noise that mixes in with rain sounds. The closest I’ll get to distant thunder out here

My most mild “weird hill to die on” hot take is that censoring lyrics on the radio is dumb and it shouldn’t happen.

First of all, it sounds like dog shit and makes me tune away from songs I like.

Second, the lyrics to NIN’s “Closer” perfectly show the performative nonsense that is the practice 🧵
Heard Ice Cube’s “Today Was a Good Day” on the radio. All of the usually censored words were replaced with clean versions: “so deep put her butt to sleep” etc.

I realized I hadn’t heard this in 30 years (censored radio songs annoy me), which made me realize…

…that was done with AI wasn’t it.

I do think the clean radio version was made in the 90s; I have definitely heard it long before AI music. Random example, someone in 2013 made an amusing mashup with the vocals over a cover of a song from the Animal Crossing series, also using the 'butt' version.

This is my most recent personal project, which took me months to complete. It was during an extremely difficult time in my life, just last year.

I'm proud of how far it went, and it was satisfying to create something complex that wasn't tucked behind an NDA. Here's a quick Before and After :)

I’m sorry, the answer to this clue is “crab”? 12 foot crabs exist?

Been nice knowing you all. Imma dip.

In spite of being a big artsy weirdo outwardly for most of my younger life (and inward permanently), in my middle age I look more or less like this guy. Our presence at protest - nondescript average dudes- is important for exactly this reason. Bc the fascists wrongly assume we’re on their side

Parent of teenagers here: this advice is 100% true. The best way to get your kids to stop saying something is to say it too.
if you're an older person who finds words like mogg and maxxing annoying, just starting using them. people over the age of 30 have the superpower to end trends by simply adopting them

I love seeing the growing power of teachers unions getting these big wins. If there’s any industry where the “there just isn’t money for that” myth is accepted as fact it’s education. To see collective action easily blowing that lie up is inspiring. Imagine what it can in a for profit industry…
