We need to make it easier to build, yes - but we cant do it off the backs of affordable housing. We need both and vilifying MHA doesnt make more housing happen, it just hurts affordable housing! Thanks to the @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social for publishing me!

Mandatory housing affordability fees aren't sole barrier to homebuilding | Op-Ed
Thanks to MHA and the Seattle Housing Levy, Seattle is now one of the best places for us to build affordable homes across King County.

Not intending to live post this whole thing but I will note that Katie Wilson in her second sentence of her opening statement, she said “(we will) invest more in affordable homeownership!”

It's been so much fun to watch all of the neighborhood groups who vociferously opposed House Bill 1110 in 2023 turning around and opposing local proposals as "contradicting the intent" of the state law, when there's nothing in the law that prevents the state's largest city from going further.
76 (Council Member: Rinck) Amend the definition of “major transit” to include ”frequent transit”.
This would be a mistake as it contradicts the intent of HB1110.
“Major transit” is light rail and rapid ride with dedicated bus lanes. HB1110 “Middle Housing” stipulates that six units can be built near Major Transit if they are within ¼ mile, and that four units can be built anywhere outside the ¼ mile.

If you disagree that folks like the Queen Anne Community Council should have the final word on whether neighborhoods are allowed to have more homes, let council know: actionnetwork.org/letters/walk...

Pretty sure this would kill housing production of all kinds - including affordable housing. Disappointing to see this proposal from CM Rivera and hope that she (and the rest of council) withdraws this ill-advised amendment.

Maritza Rivera proposed an amendment to the comprehensive plan that would allow the city to require builders to go back and create new site plans if ANY tree, including the tiniest sapling, would have to be removed because of the proposed site plan.

'Vacations.'

The word is 'vacations.'

FAST COMPANY Article:

While retirement typically occurs, after
completing a career and saving and investing for it, a new trend is emerging among Gen Z career professionals
called "micro-retirement." Micro-
retirements involve taking a one to two- week break from work every 12 to 18 months.
Gen Z is using micro-retirement to avoid burnout, find greater fulfillment in their work, and enhance their overall well-being. However, it's not just Gen-Z:
