A flexible spending account that replaces enhanced ACA premium tax credits would help people with their out-of-pocket health care costs. But, that help would be limited if they couldn't afford to buy insurance to begin with without the enhanced tax credits.

I don’t doubt that @americalabs.org knows far more about this than most of us and may very well be right, but this is all so cynical and depressing. Not even the Dems are on our side.
This is the kind of thing that takes the wind out of everyone’s sails.

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.
1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.
Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

13) I think Dem leadership still suffers from frame drag. They think it's the 90s. Trump is dismantling the powers of Congress. They have to rise to that moment and demand big things.
Vought is expanding the playing field to thinks off the table. Dems need to do the same.

12) With the way the CR/minibus fight ended, real doubts about whether the Dems are smart... at least their leadership. Republicans negotiated good cop, bad cop, crazy cop.
What was the Dem ldrship negotiating strategy? Pretend to be one way to the public and another in private. Not good.

11) The discussion about health care was useful PR, but covered up discussion over the power of the purse, which is fundamental. If the WH doesn't have to follow the law, it doesn't matter what you pass.
With the remaining approps bills + CR, Dems still could fight that fight. If they're smart

7) If it were me, I wouldn't agree to fund the FSGG approps bill that funds the WH/OMB without policy riders that take away the administration's funding to pursue things like impoundment, etc. Why should Russ Vought have any staff? Saying "no" here is a policy win. If they do it.

SCOTUS today agreed to hear a case that could strike down what's known as a "grace period," the practice many states have of allowing mail-in ballots to count if they're postmarked by Election Day, even if they arrive in the following days.

Two more states just banned grace periods for mail ballots that are sent before polls close but arrive after Election Day. Trump and conservative judges stepped up attacks, too.

Maybe the alarmists aren't alarmists, maybe they just know more about human beings and what drives purely evil people while you're still thinking there's hope for a guy who was willing to shut down the country to hide his dealings with a pedophile and sent a mob to attack the Capitol.
The Trump administration on Monday said it still wants the Supreme Court to block lower court decisions requiring it to pay full food assistance benefits to about 42 million Americans who rely on the nation’s largest anti-hunger program.

This would be believable if @shaheen.senate.gov did not, in this very quote, train her fire on people wanting the shutdown to continue and work with Thune to enable Trump's stupid, cruel, lawless rule.
Shaheen: "All those people who oppose this agreement -- staying in a shutdown mode was not getting us anywhere. They need to train their fire on the people who are responsible. That's Trump, Johnson, & the Republicans who have blocked every attempt to get healthcare. We need to be working together."

tbh when I'm at a sketchy bar, I usually go for Maker's. Cheap and good stuff.
This is far and away my pettiest Tim Kaine gripe but the Senator’s advance staff always deliver a bottle of Maker’s Mark that is for him only to fundraising events so he doesn’t have to do toasts with the cheap beer and wine the hosts provide and that always really irked me

Comer is against Medicare??
Comer: "This is a fake economy. You can't have 1/3 of America receiving some type of free government healthcare and then have another 1/3 that's getting a subsidized rate. That falls on the final 1/3 that's having to pay increased premiums."

Correct, the honorable Senator Shaheen just gave it up without a negotiation.
Health care isn’t negotiable.
We need to both reopen the government and work together to protect access to affordable health care by extending the ACA enhanced premium tax credits.
