New! We worked with the Public Interest Research Group to test a bunch of LLM-driven toys ahead of the Christmas. That sexual talking teddy bear wasn't a one-off; it turns out disturbing behavior is deeply built into these toys across the board.
AI toys for kids talk about sex and issue Chinese Communist Party talking points, tests show
New research from Public Interest Research Group and tests conducted by NBC News found that a wide range of AI toys have loose guardrails.

I always tell people the best way to test the accuracy of AI is to ask it to write a bio of yourself.
I asked said person, “just so I’m clear, you’re refuting my account of my marital status based on a claim that AI is making about me? Do I have that right?”

They doubled down. I walked off and mentally cut them off to boot. We are in the bad place for real.

I am not a military strategist, but I have a vague memory that not feeding the troops was one of those big fuck-ups that Sun Tzu talked about.
NEW: The US Army website for its bases in Bavaria, Germany told its soldiers and employees that it might need to obtain free food from the German government during the US government shutdown.

The Army later altered publication to remove a list of food banks, but we have the original text here:
US Army Tells Soldiers to Go to German Food Bank, Then Deletes It
The initial 'Shutdown Guidance' for the US Army Garrison Bavaria included instructions to go to German food banks.

really liked this about how racism isn’t just a moral failure, but the operating system for authoritarianism. we treat "talking about race" as a strategy question. but the reason to talk about it is to prevent the power grab that we're going to face

• Set up safety check-ins

An insightful read showing how some parents become radicalised into ‘gender critical’ transphobia when their child comes out as trans.

Here, one of the most unhinged leaders of the ‘Mom’s for Liberty’ movement is interviewed, along with their amazingly well-adjusted non-binary child…

The maddening thing is that we know EXACTLY how to prevent this. Yes, kids should get vaccinated, test, stay home when sick, mask as much as possible.

But even without any of that: Better ventilation and filtration in schools can MASSIVELY reduce viral spread, for all sorts of respiratory diseases.
