The Founders (rightly) thought financial corruption was so concerning they banned it in the Constitution three separate times: the two emoluments clauses, and the only named impeachable offense besides treason.

Starting in 2017, America decided it just kinda didn't matter anymore, whatcha gonna do.
UNREAL: Per NY Times amazing reporting today they found "Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 billion. We know this number to be an underestimate because some of his profits remain hidden from public view." We live in a 3rd world sh*thole! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Opinion | How Trump Has Used the Presidency to Make at Least $1.4 Billion
The president took an oath to serve the American people. Instead, he’s focused his second term on enriching himself and his family.

every time I read this, I get apocalyptically apoplectic about how clear it is. it is instant. it does not require explicit congressional action to invoke, it instead only requires that to remove.

donald trump is not the current president right now, according to the constitution.

The official message of the U.S. government to ICE is if you kill an American citizen while trying to deport brown people, not only will we cover it up but we will try to jail their spouse instead.

We all died during COVID and this is hell.

Missed this a few days ago:

Two U.S. citizens grabbed by ICE say there were cells reserved for Americans.

Also, they weren’t given medical attention or allowed to go to the bathroom.

Don’t forget Good’s widow.

So the mourning spouse, the mayor, and the governor are under criminal investigation. But not the cops who shot her three times, called her a “fucking bitch,” and denied her medical care.
The DOJ is not investigating ICE agent Jonathan Ross for the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a top official said Sunday.

The top DOJ official confirmed that an investigation is underway into Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Justice Department says it has no plans to investigate ICE agent who killed Renee Good and confirms Walz, Frey probe
Frey and the governor’s office both said Sunday that the DOJ has not contacted them about the investigation.

How sad is this? The CDC closed its FOIA office, so this story could only be published because a Danish journalist provided Rolling Stone with the documents, after obtaining them through a freedom of information request to the University of Southern Denmark

I agree that we ought to use persuasion to bring people nearer to our political purposes; I think that making every single Republican a social and professional pariah for the rest of their lives would be very persuasive when it comes to people weighing the cost/benefit of aligning with fascism.

Once protest is labeled “insurrection,” the next step is labeling dissenters as enemies. That’s the slope we’re on. The Insurrection Act was meant for genuine emergencies—not for a president eager to silence anyone who refuses to fall in line.

“There is no basis in law for a president to set up an offshore account that he controls so that he can sell assets seized by the American military,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

It is hard to explain institutional collapse to voters; videos where state actors are clearly acting in abusive ways explain themselves.
This is incredible: 81% of working class and 83% of young voters have seen video of Renee Good's killing, per new data I've obtained. Majority of working class disapproves of ICE enforcement. ICE brutality is breaking through big time.

Some thoughts on this here:

HAPPENING NOW: In federal court in MN, DOJ is struggling to articulate why a person following an ICE vehicle — so long as they are obeying traffic laws — can be stopped for "reasonable suspicion" of a crime.

if only there had been a movement and momentum several years ago to downsize police budgets, clear out the white supremacists and de-militarize local law enforcement
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations
