The "em dash evangelist" label on my website is more amusing these days, as The Internet is now convinced that people using em dashes in their writing are all using AI.

SOME OF US JUST WRITE LIKE THE #ADHD IS WINNING -- BECAUSE IT IS -- Y'ALL.

Welp. @johnnyvengeance.bsky.social and I both completely forgot today was our 12th wedding anniversary until my mom wished us a happy one. So I think we're killing it in the marriage department.

Texas conservatives who've championed book bans & anti-LGBT policies suffered big losses tonight in school board races.

And They seem to have lost their working majorities to pass their policies in big school boards.

I tracked these results in FOUR boards tonight. So a 🧵 on each ICYMI.

"These $25,000 grants are for activities to address immediate needs following grant cancellations, including completing a wave of data collection, analyzing already collected data or writing, thoughtful project closure with community partners, or preparing grant proposals to continue the research."
FYI: The Spencer Foundation, Kapor Foundation, The William T. Grant Foundation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have collaborated to offer $25K rapid response grants.

"This rapid response bridge funding opportunity is for scholars and teams whose grants have recently been cancelled by NSF."

“Eugenics isn’t just about eradicating the lesser people like myself, like people with disabilities, it’s about attaching disability to marginalized communities in order to slate them for eradication.”

Today's excerpt from my current WIP, a sentence we can all agree is a true example of literary excellence:

"I stood standing."

Figuratively, the MC in my current WIP has to embrace his differences, and let go of his desire to fit in. Literally, he has to let go of his mom.

So what do you think? Beltane is just around the corner, and in fact upon some parts of the world. At the time of such an important Sabbat, we need to think about the thin veils of the world. What burns your characters to transform?

I'm Sabrina and I write kid lit -- I have a bunch of PB manuscripts but most recent WIPs are middle grade horror.

I write horror now because I kept trying to write soft and magical picture books but CB/MG horror kept coming out instead. It wasn't really up to me.

Alright here we go, Question No. 1.

“When will someone think of the male writers?” I’m always saying.

“If only I could find works of literary fiction by men.” I’ve shouted into the ether.

Thank the gods for such a trailblazer.

A desperate plea for my local bookstores.

Can anyone, for the love of any god, stock more adult horror than Stephen King?

And, for the love of the same or another god, can the kid-lit section include more than award winners/nominees & required reading from 1995? MAYBE EVEN SOME HORROR?

Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma
This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings
House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson.

Just a thought.

You know it’s serious when the neuro-affirming orgs are publicly aligning with Autism Speaks .
This might be the first time ever! All this organization agreed on something and joined up. RFK Jr. in trouble
ASAN, Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network, the Autistic People of Color Fund, Autism Society of America, Autism Speaks, The Arc, and others stand united: Autistic people deserve respect, support, and science-based policy, not dangerous disinformation. autisticadvocacy.org/2025/04/lead...

I wanted to write something about RFK’s eugenics-minded absolute garbage speech on autism but all that came out was a tirade of profanities.

Friendly reminder: you don’t have to produce something for the capitalist war machine to be a worthy member of society. You are enough.

My kids know I don’t have a permanent favorite anything. They’ll often ask “what’s your favorite _____ today?”

Because yeah, committing to A ONE FAVORITE anything stresses meowt.

Took the kids (Stitch and Charizard) to #kidsconne today and got to chat with @jldurona.com for a minute — what a treat! All the kid lit writers I know live in my computer, so it’s always a bit surreal to see anyone IRL!

Camp Cretaceous has me stressed out. Who, in their right mind, sends a teenager to sleep-away camp on a remote island with genetically-modified prehistoric dinosaurs?

That’s objectively bad parenting.

If there's one thing I can do, it's survive. When my brother died. When my parents left. When the earthquake hit.

Maybe I should be afraid that the sky went dark, & the animals are dying, & all the adults are gone. But I'm not. If anyone is going to make it out alive, it's me.
