can’t get to sleep so here’s the first chapter of my manga (0/many)

I swear if I had still be working there at the time I would’ve been able to point it out LOL

Reminder that the text in the White Bitch Forest isn’t a font, it’s just the unfortunate handwriting of the designer behind the logo that no one seemed to notice LOL

If it’s a scene with a character who refers to themselves as Boku talking to someone who uses Watashi, that alone is an indicator of the speaker even if they’re off screen.

Not all manga even has tails with their bubbles, and a lot of that has to do with character voice being connected to the literal grammar of the lines, making it pretty easy to tell who is talking at times.

Someone else already mentioned it, but inverted tails on speech bubbles are called 逆ツノ in JP! The tail is called a “horn” (ツノ, tsuno), and 逆 (gyaku) means “inverted”. It’s common in manga with variations being drawing a small face of the character speaking to indicate whose line it is.

I’ve never seen this before! An *inward-indicating* word-balloon tail (that’s the speaker’s right arm descending below the word balloon).

FASCINATING! Does this tail technique have a name? Have folks seen it used elsewhere?? I have so many questions!!! (From HIRAYASUMI, book 3, pg 37)
Photo of HIRAYASUMI, book 3, pg 37… showing an inward indicating word balloon tail

I want to revise chapter 3 but my meeting isn't until next Wednesday!! I am going stir-crazy

This may be how I’m able to draw manga professionally, now that I think of it

it was said by someone like half a year ago that learning how to deliver passable if not good work under both immense pressure and short notice is actually an important part of the college experience and an incredibly useful skill and the person who said that was right

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

In my experience you always make it together with your editor and then they either have it checked by the EIC OR present it to editorial, not both. So I don’t know if this is like, a stopgap they’ve put in place here or what
sakaimii.bsky.social
I’m just not sure what to make of this since everything seems to be going through the EIC before the editor meeting and I can’t tell if that’s a good thing or not…
sakaimii.bsky.social
Okay I took a nap and am feeling less grumpy after asking my editor if she thinks it’s possible to finish everything by the nextish editorial meeting (she said she thinks so, as long as my schedule allows it)
sakaimii.bsky.social
The idea of making it past this and getting dropped at the final meeting is honestly pretty shattering
sakaimii.bsky.social
More revisions…mainly chapter 3 so I guess that’s good. I don’t have my meeting until next week Wednesday though :/

I can’t get over how romantic Hyuna and Luka’s cover of Karma is…I keep imagining that in the Happy World Hyuna is a performer and Luka is her accompaniment/husband

To celebrate 100 yrs of the Yamanote loop, let me share this very old 4-panel comic I made back in the day 💀 You can tell it’s old because I drew it when cape coats were in fashion 😆

this is the hyuna and luka singing karma together

I am starting to draw aster, my teif boy, and oh nooo i can see the anxiety on his face

Also losing it thinking about how this makes Luka's version of All-In sound like it's just like...his side of the song???

Like Ivan's All-In makes me think of an AU where Ivan joins the rebels but this is definitely Not That
