I haven’t been creatively motivated / driven in some time, but one of my favorite things to do is take a selfie at every AMC movie I go to. I titled the series after a line in the Nicole Kidman pledge of allegiance, “because here, they are”. It’s my very own On Kawara-like practice.

Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.

I’m reading “Ripley Under Ground” which is the follow up to “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and I am shocked they didn’t make it into a movie or mini-series. He’s got himself into more absurd murder shenanigans with a sub-plot on art forgeries and scamming people in the artworld. And it’s set in Paris!

As a self-professed Derek Erdman-head, with a house full of his work, I can say with my full chest that he’s one of the best artists to come out of Chicago. Been following his career for more than half my life, and everything he does tickles me.
Artist Derek Erdman will send you free cat pics if you text his number. No catch, just cats.

I do not drink because I have almost no tolerance for it anymore (one margarita is too much).

If you are hosting a party, I recommend also stocking:
-fancy ginger beer
-coconut water
-premium juices like lychee and guava
-apple cider with cinnamon
-Italian sodas
-sparkling water

Lots of options!

I’ll say it again. What a fun year to decide I’m going to get into watching The Bears. Those dudes did it again!

I really can’t believe we were told that we should toss our DVDs and CDs in favor of streaming. What a damn scam that was. So stoked to watch my Christmas DVDs next month!

Working your whole life to enjoy a few years when you're close to death is one of the biggest scams nobody talks about.

You spend your healthiest years making someone else rich. Sitting in traffic. Stuck in meetings.

You'll never get those years back. Time is the one asset you can't buy more of.

I know Ann Sather was in hot water during lockdown for allowing sneaky indoor dining and that was not cool…. But their cinnamon rolls absolutely slap. Had one this morning for the first time in a year, and the guy at the register gave me an extra one just because.

It is still so funny to me that “red tie” means Republican and “blue tie” means Democrat. Like, it never ceases to tickle me. Color theory and American politics lmao

Anyone in Chicago want this George Maher fireplace?

Free to a good home (via a friend of mine)

Apparently it’s movable.

Just rewatched “Amadeus” (it holds up). Cannot believe Mozart died at 35 and the last opera he wrote was “The Magic Flute”. God-tier creative genius. Like he made literal banger after banger.

I think there's a decent chance that the Pope visits Chicago during this presidency and while there asks to see Broadview and I wonder how that plays out.

LFG!!!
Workers at The Met are trying to unionize, citing “long-term pay inequities, lack of job protection, and ever-increasing workloads.” If they succeed, their union would be one of the largest museum unions in the US.

I'm back on the job market and genuinely planning to ask potential employers what expectations there are around AI usage in the role. Because at my last job, everyone was using it for their work and I did NOT agree with that from an ethical standpoint...
