People have historically, and rightfully, seen the evil of Guantanamo, Abu Gharib, and now CECOT for what it is, but I wish more people would also see the evil in our domestic prisons too. How we treat our most vulnerable, including prisoners, really sets the tone for our whole society.
I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Additionally, people tend to vastly underestimate how expensive it is to digitize content. The amount of labor required is substantial.
There are also significant legal issues with digitizing content still under copyright protection. There are exceptions, but people need to understand the laws.

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

It's a sad statement of our society that the only way Gov Hochul can have a press conference on the safety of the subway is by sequestering the normally public space of One Vanderbilt surrounded by cops, state troopers, and members of the National Guard.
(And, to be clear, the subway is super safe)

We now learn that Fifa had a very specific "ask" in exchange for its "Peace Award" to Trump, with loads of gold trinkets, and that was dismissal of a criminal corruption case against senior Fifa officials. And Trump granted it. Another corrupt bargain, barely noticed (and ignored by US media).
