Male allies. A woman I follow was called "hysterical" on here today. The only person who stood up for her was another woman. Even when these terms are used by someone on your own side, you need to call it out. These centuries old mysoginist slurs need to stop. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.
Well – no. Bluesky may or may not be, as one centre-right friend who felt unwelcome put it, “self-righteous island”. But the idea that’s why we went is nonsense. That I’ve largely stopped posting on a site that’s done more to shape my career and social circle than the rest of the internet combined is less about avoiding rival opinions (I love arguing with people who are wrong!) than with the fact the site simply became unusable. It stopped generating the things (good jokes, interesting debate, clicks) I wanted; it became extremely good at generating the things (racists, pornbots, racist pornbots) I did not.

Joanna Lumley killing it as usual.
"I'm an immigrant"
I say this frequently when bigots are complaining about immigration and they immediately stop because they can't say what they are thinking. Except that one Brit in Spain who literally said "but you're white" before realising what he had said.

After pointing out that she's an immigrant Joanna Lumley asks why we don't fix the problems that create asylum seekers and address climate change

I love how some people try to frame literal immigration policy designed to make people qualify to live and work somewhere as a problem that needs to be solved by the place they want to live and work.

You might be retired/disabled, studying managing a business overseas, have staff working for you, be trading or managing investments. You might organise events or tour groups.

The UK is one country for immigration purposes. The EU is not.

The rules apply to any non-EU citizens not covered by free movement law, not just British citizens. All these possible penalties for overstay already exist.

Brexity folks are allowed to worship British border controls; but the EU is not supposed to enforce theirs against Brits.

The EU entry exit system (EES) starts on 12 October 2025. If you are a UK Withdrawal Agreement beneficiary in the EU you will be exempt from EES registration when leaving or entering the Schengen zone if you have the correct documents. Check out our blog for info bit.ly/48RHfZA

Me neither. In my red wall seat 2nd place was Reform and the others way below, so I gave Labour my vote. I am now tainted with their anti-immigrant rhetoric/stance. Will not give them my vote again unless they change tune.

Ok I’ll say it

Don’t know why I need to as I support Schengen

The UK population weren’t ready to join Schengen because of decades of lies and being gaslit although we should have joined it

Schengen is a good thing. It should not be abused

As a “third country” we have no right to exceptions
nialloconghaile.bsky.social
This is another attack on Schengen, on European unity. It is time for pro-Europeans in the UK to say so.

In particular important organisations like @europeanmovement.co.uk and @bremaininspain.com need to say straight - "Schengen is a good thing and should not be abused".

Well said! So refreshing to have someone called out the Reform lies to their face @zackpolanski.bsky.social

Deafening applause as Zack Polanski tells Zia Yusuf that people's concern over immigration is because he spends all his time spreading misinformation and fear.

They're right. Do they also realise the EU member states don't have to let them in?🤷🏼‍♀️

Before their convention I thought the MPs would give her until after the locals, as nobody would want to have the responsibility for those. Now, I think she'll be lucky to make it to Christmas.

Vote for Reform and you get a bunch of ex Tories. I know what my campaign posters would be.
grahambs.bsky.social
The right and far right of British politics are increasingly backing Reform. The centre and left of politics are fragmenting even more. Because of our ridiculous voting system there will only be one winner.

Twenty Tory councillors defect to Reform this morning
The defections come a day after a Sky News/YouGov poll found half of Tory members think Kemi Badenoch should not lead the party into the next election.

Worth noting that Farage also claimed to his supporters that a 2027 election was inevitable at the Reform Party conference.

Largely I suspect to sustain a sense of mobilisation needed to prevent the discipline of his set up from falling apart under the pressure of opposition for another 4 years

Labour has a majority of about 150. What is the internal turmoil this person imagines that would lead to a Labour PM voluntarily calling an early election. Because that’s the only way one happens.

Or to put it another way: what are these people smoking?
