Same everywhere. Right is getting radical, left is heading to the centre
German study shows how far right sets agenda thanks to mainstream parties reshaping their communications to respond to what are initially fringe issues, boosting the spread of these ideas and signalling to voters that these ideas and stances were legitimate

For the last decades she was best known for her indefatigable commitment for conservation, but her contribution to science can't be overestimated as well. I feel priviledged to have met her on several occasions. We will miss her.

Climate change will increase it to up to 42%! (Now imagine a company looses 42% of its value…) doi.org/10.1038/s41558-025-02408-9

Restore social ties must be an absolute priority in our nation in terms of public health - from #Hyperpolitics, Anton Jäger

I know a climate activist who got married and posted her thought: marriage, in this epoque of loneliness and individualism, is a political act. So are friendship and community

Such a sad thing seeing our continent spending money for a fear and not for future and hope
#eu
Important corrective from Anton Jäger.

Europe already spends a ton on defense, and efforts to harmonize and rationalize spending will take far longer to coordinate than just opening the taps.

And unlike retooling factories for green tech, defense manufacturing results in nonproductive goods.

About 1500 of the approx. 2300 people that will have lost their lives across 12 European cities last week would still live, if it wasn't for our burning of oil, coal and gas. If we care about the right to life, we need to stop burning fossil fuels. www.imperial.ac.uk/grantham/pub...

Just finished #projecthailmary, I liked the attempt to be scientifically accurate not only about physics but life in general. Too used to Chinese sci-fi and #ursulaleguin, so the witty quips at all costs were too much - but in general nice book! Nostalgic of Rocky for sure

When I first started working at university, one of my focuses was building with local wood resources. What surprises me isn’t that we can build wooden houses - it’s that there are still no decent policies to support this approach.

Everything about Building with Plants is so wild, e.g.:

"a more conservative approach of bamboo supply [China] would divide the bamboo supply shown by a factor of 10, which would lead to the ability to supply HALF OF THE HOUSING DEMAND GLOBALLY." Only... journal-buildingscities.org/articles/10....

All over Europe we can see this in our lives. A couple of years ago a drough caused losses for 200 k€ to my neighbour farmer. The following year hail big as tennis balls broke the glass of my friend car while she was driving.
Every spring we are worried about the upcoming months

I was born in a small countryside town in northern Italy. After spending my 20s in Milan, I rediscovered the beauty of rural life and what it means to feel at home. But adulthood also means having your heart split across places, making every trip a little bittersweet

In recognition of us doing fuck all to reduce emissions, let me remind y'all that carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is useless unless we decarbonize drastically.

Carbon dioxide removal is not a current climate solution — we need to change the narrative
Drastically reduce emissions first, or carbon dioxide removal will be next to useless.

NEW STUDY found that “the growing number of SUVs reduced the vehicle capacity of freeway lanes in Minnesota’s Twin Cities by 9.5% between 1995-2019. Their findings suggest yet another way in which ‘car bloat’ exacerbates problems that affect everyone, regardless of how they travel.”
How SUVs Are Making Traffic Worse
As larger, taller sport utility vehicles took over US roads, they also aggravated highway congestion, according to a new study. It’s yet another ill effect of “car bloat.”
