Reyes then goes through the history of Haitian TPS in particular; how around 50,000 Haitians in the US were protected in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, and maintained their status until Trump first tried to end it soon after his "shithole" comment. She has a fascinating footnote on that.

Peter Thiel has been open about this for a long time. Trump is a way to break the republic, which can then be replaced by “free economic zones” with oligarchs as dictators and tech as a taskmaster for helpless humans without any rights. (1/2)
Definitely seems like they destroyed the country on purpose.

vance and co are not going to be happy when they realize they've ended up at a position ("your eyes are lying to you!") that takes more effort to embrace than refute. they need a simple, compact narrative. their people do not have the cognitive bandwidth to add any extra layers to "immigrants bad!"

I feel like a crazy person, a delusional conspiracy theorist, just for putting this idea out in the world, but: I've seen enough different things like this that I'm reasonably certain members of the Trump Administration are placing bets in prediction markets on their own actions before they do them.

clearly this is a difficult topic for some people, so it deserves this disclaimer: naturalized citizens from illiberal countries did not win the 2024 election for trump. rather, trump successfully used LGBT wedge issues to motivate non-college-educated social conservatives, including non-white ones

is it any wonder an anti-trans scapegoating campaign strategy was effective among unlikely, low-information voters who harbor regressive cultural views about diversity and sexuality?

i'm going to spend the rest of my life figuring out how a small band of elites decided that acting as the global currency and primary military hegemon was gay and feminine coded
