Hong Kong financial regulators pushed Meta on why it wasn’t verifying the ID of financial advertisers (a very common source of scams)

Meta staffers boasted about how, through “skillful negotiation,” it redirected HK to organizing an anti-scam charter signing event requiring no product changes.

We got Meta’s “general global playbook” for defeating advertiser verification regulations, which the company knows would reduce scams. It includes making scam ads “not findable” for regulators searching Meta’s ad library through targeted scrubbing.

It’s legitimately worrisome that CEO of one of world’s largest social media platforms is unaware that technical specs for this *already exist*, that world’s leading camera-makers (except Apple) have embraced it (+most GenAI vendors), and that Meta is a C2PA signatory, too…

Not confidence inspiring!

If this invention is genuinely as economically and socially beneficial as these hype-men claim, appropriate public policy response is to require Alphabet -a global tech monopoly- to license all associated IP on FRAND terms

Treat Alphabet like Bells Labs post-‘56 if innovations are so indispensable

Yeah please don’t post that the FDIC did “nothing special” for SVB.

That’s flat out wrong and is running with a false narrative. They were favored, as were depositors at First Republic.

You can be glad all depositors were insured or not, but don’t say it’s totally normal and fine.

We’re living in Alexander Hamilton’s America, where capital dominates and the President exercises powers just shy of a monarch’s (including extensive intervention in industry on behalf of elite interests).

It’s unfortunate that Miranda’s silly musical warped the public’s understanding of Hamilton.
