A year ago there were fires raging all around here. Apocalyptic shit. Visibility down to zero. All my hiking spots burnt. Botanizing spots, blackened. Rains did finally come, and I eventually managed to get past the military vehicles and up into the hills. Post fire ecology is wild.

We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

That is a better Q. Dems voted against the increased ICE funding, but have been scared to say something like this - we'd reverse it and spend it on health care.
