Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

The priest on the right is holding a monstrance. It’s used to display a piece of communion bread — which Catholics believe becomes the literal body of Christ when it’s consecrated — for worship.

A monstrance is normally only used in *very* solemn ceremonies.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

Hope is a hammer. "You can act as if there’s a tomorrow worth protecting – even when your deepest, most secret heart is convinced there is no hope to be found. The beautiful thing about being in community with others is that if your hammer breaks... you can still build new things..." ❤️‍🔥🥰

Some folks can't see the fascism, and so they have false optimism that causes them not to act against it.

Other folks see the fascism, and they feel so hopeless that they don't act against it.

What we need is a combination of the ability to see things honestly as well as to be empowered.

Experimenting with a new concept using @queermedieval.bsky.social’s Portland Frog woodcut. Embracing goofiness as protest.
A poster in green ink on off white paper. In the center is a woodcut style illustration of a protester wearing an inflatable frog costume standing up against two ICE agents. The text above and below reads:

Folks, you can't report the United States to its manager. There's no superhero coming to save us.

We don't need one giant act of heroism. We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again.

That's the revolution.

Do you like Zohran's goals of universal childcare + free buses? That means you want New York State to tax the rich.

It also means you disagree with Governor Kathy Hochul, who's telling state agencies to reduce services.

Hochul is facing a primary next year; let us make #TaxTheRich the main issue.

🤓WONKY STATEMENT ALERT🤓

Gov. Hochul wants to cut New York State Agency budgets (again). But with [gestures wildly] everything going on right now, New Yorkers need to be able to depend on public programs AND the people who keep them running.

👇Our full statement👇 (& more wonkiness in this thread)
On Thursday, New York State Budget Director Blake Washington sent a letter to agency commissioners, requesting that their budget proposals for the next fiscal year not exceed the amount of the current fiscal year; in other words, their budget requests for the 2027 Fiscal Year should remain “flat.” This follows a New York Focus report that already-strained government staff must scramble to enforce new federal SNAP requirements in a matter of weeks. In response, the Invest in Our New York Campaign released the following statement:
“While Gov. Hochul will frame this request as keeping budgets flat, we know the truth: This is a cut to public programs and services. As costs skyrocket and many agencies are already short-staffed, the governor wants public servants to do more with so much less.

“Gov. Hochul needs to stop playing the blame game with D.C. Republicans and start acting in the best interest of the people she represents. Convene a special session, raise the public funds our state desperately needs by taxing the super-rich, and invest in the offices, programs, and services that support New Yorkers.”

He wants X thing so he gets X thing is not a given. And to me that's the thing to uproot from people's consciousness. Because we're less than a year in and many people seem already defeated.

today's card pull: if you've been burned before you might look at a certain offer very skeptically - and you're right to, and know that "no" is a full sentence. but make sure your past experience isn't over-colouring the situation & preventing you from seeing what's really on offer #tarot #tarotsky

This sin releases plagues of disease, promiscuity and perversion into our local communities.
