I am not alarmist. I'm writing what needs to be said. Higher ed is on the brink of collapse and so much could be lost. College, alongside the military, is a second family for many adults. It is where people fall in love, pick sports teams, meet lifelong friends, and form a professional identity. A 🧵

Since February, according to my latest analysis, almost 600,000 Black women have been economically sidelined. The November 20, 2025, Jobs Report makes clear this isn’t a blip. It’s a structural crisis. That is not a recovery. It is a redistribution of opportunity.

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

Things that will get you kicked out of academia forever:
- taking maternity leave at the wrong time
- spending too much time with your kids
- reporting harassment
- not moving every 2-3 years
- taking a partner's job/preferences into account
- mouthing off before tenure
A guy makes ONE tiny mistake (has a years-long friendship with the world's worst sex trafficker; brags about sexually harassing colleagues; is racist; says women are stupid) and his whole LIFE is blown up (does slightly fewer speaking engagements; keeps teaching at #1 university)??!?!?!?!?!
So Harvard is keeping this guy, but Claudine Gay had to step down over ginned up plagiarism accusations and bad-faith accusations of anti-Semitism.

Got it.

After several years of study and major traumas, I’ve concluded that the system underpinning the Epstein sex trafficking ring is the same system that enables predatory male professors to gaslight, sexually exploit, and blackmail their trainees.

Which means covering up either is complicity in both.
What it seems a lot of folks are doing is putting their hands over their ears and going, “la la la la.”

Which is inexcusable from anyone, but especially from tenured professors.

I cannot imagine prioritizing my own safety above that of women students and literal children.
