Fun fact: last week I got my royalty statement. It was for the last 6 months, and it was for my two books that have been banned.

Just so you know how rich we get off banned books, that check was a whopping $51.

@hollyblack.bsky.social told me at Clarion that all my characters were too self-aware. (Because I am, doing that came naturally to me.) She was right, and I fixed that.

But kids come into the world extremely curious and love to learn things. I would argue that we get taught by society to stop indulging our curiosity and just accept what the powers that be tell us, as awful as that is.

I find it bleak that ChatGPT now has more users than Wikipedia. Many people would rather be spoon-fed information by a machine than read and research for themselves. Tech isn't just making us dumber. Worse than that: it's killing curiosity itself and the desire to learn.
