informal q for Americans: how much were you taught about the moral failings of America in school? Where/when? Public or private?
I went to public school in NY suburbs and we did a whole unit on WWII internment camps in 7th grade. I graduated in 2007. I remember being assigned a Zinn book in HS too.

This is such a dumb gripe with everything else going on, but its such bullshit that Netflix does this when you google "(movie title) streaming." Netflix does not have any of these movies in the US!

He goes on to describe one of his officers being stopped when she was off-duty solely because she's non-white, harassed by ICE goons who slapped her phone out of her hand as she tried to record, only to be let go when she finally revealed she was a cop.

I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

this crystallizes why, despite truly heroic solidarity and activism, i can’t quite get in the “we’re going to win” mindset right now. the harm is so active and there’s so much violence we don’t even know about. people are being turned into ghosts.

I am not quite as well-read here, and my instinct is to say the comparison is considerably different - global markets weren't linked in the same way, Asia (and by extension its markets) is COMPLETELY different today than it was then.

She was still alive.
There was a doctor on scene who wanted to render aid.
ICE refused. Told him they “didn’t care” that he was a physician.
Timely CPR saves lives.
This was all so unnecessary.
